This week's must-try wines are from Eric Guido’s article, Soave - The Long Road Home . Enjoy an excerpt from his article and reviews below! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ "Soave’s most ambitious producers have worked hard to overcome the mixed reputation that was so penalizing in the past. It’s been a long journey and one fraught with many challenges, yet the first signs of that effort are starting to show in a bevy of wines that increasingly merit serious attention." --Eric Guido, Soave - The Long Road Home, April 2022 1. 2019 Inama Carmenere Più 2. 2020 Inama Vin Soave 3. 2020 La Cappuccina Soave 4. 2019 Pieropan Soave Classico Calvarino 5. 2020 Pieropan Soave Classico 6. 2019 Suavia Soave Classico Monte Carbonare 7. 2020 Suavia Soave Classico 8. NV Tenuta Santomè Extra Dry Prosecco

Tenuta Santomè

Extra Dry Prosecco

Delectable Wine
9.0

The NV Extra Dry Prosecco lulls you in with pretty white flowers, sweet spice and hints of nectarine. It’s seamlessly smooth with a pleasant inner sweetness, dancing across the palate with a silken bead that gives way to ripe melon and orchard fruits. This cleans up beautifully, while leaving the senses completely refreshed for another sip. Nicely done. (Lot# 521) (Eric Guido, Vinous, April 2022)

Pieropan

Classico Soave Garganega 2020

Delectable Wine
9.1

The 2020 Soave Classico wafts up with enticing notes of kiwi and sour melon contrasted by savory herbs. It’s deeply textural and round in feel, with a tart interplay of lemon and lime that’s nicely offset by a pleasant inner sweetness. There’s wonderful harmony here, as the 2020 tapers off with green botanicals and a flourish of minerality. This “entry-level” Soave Classico from Pieropan punches well above its price point. Since Pieropan makes three different bottlings, one from each tank, of their Soave, I thought it prudent to add the lot number for reference. (Lot# 26.10.21) (Eric Guido, Vinous, April 2022)

Suavia

Soave Classico Garganega 2020

Delectable Wine
9.0

The 2020 Soave Classico is remarkably pretty, perfumed and refined, with crushed apple and chamomile complemented by dusty florals. It finds a balanced middle ground between succulent ripe fruits and zesty acids, as its silken textures soothe the palate. A flourish of salty minerals and sweet florals seals the deal, as the 2020 tapers off long yet fresh. This is a lovely entry-level Soave. Well done. (Eric Guido, Vinous, April 2022)

Calvarino Soave Classico Garganega Trebbiano 2019

Delectable Wine
9.4

The 2019 Soave Classico Calvarino opens slowly, yet time in the glass reveals a pungent mix of lemon oil and wet stone, offset by an enriching note of almond paste. This is elegant, with medium-bodied weight nicely contrasted by brilliant acidity and zesty green citrus tones that build tension. The 2019 Calvarino finishes long and lightly structured, leaving the cheeks puckering, as hints of kiwi skin and minerals fade. There’s a seriously bright future here. In 2019, the Calvarino production was reduced by 30% due to frost. (Eric Guido, Vinous, April 2022)

Più Colli Berici Carménère 2019

Delectable Wine
9.0

The 2019 Carménère Piu boasts peppery florals balanced by rich brown spices and crushed cherries. This is silky and round, with pretty inner perfumes that dominate the sensation; it’s also remarkably elegant in feel. It leaves the palate classically dry but fresh, finishing with medium length and leaving hints of hard red candies. (Eric Guido, Vinous, April 2022)

Suavia

Monte Carbonare Soave Classico Garganega 2019

Delectable Wine
9.2

The 2019 Soave Classico Monte Carbonare pulls you close with a nuanced mix of spring flowers, ginger and crushed green apple. It soothes the palate through silky textures and a pleasant inner sweetness, with ripe pit fruits and hints of melon motivated by brisk acidity. Nothing is out of place in this elegant and jovial Soave, as it tapers off lightly structured and buzzes with residual tension. While highly enjoyable today, the Monte Carbonare will excel through medium-term cellaring. (Eric Guido, Vinous, April 2022)

La Cappuccina

Soave Garganega 2020

Delectable Wine
8.9

The 2020 Soave is subtle and delicate in the glass with dusty yellow florals and hints of peach skins. It washes across the palate, soft and round, with a lovely mineral and acid balance. This leaves a glycerol coating of fruit concentration, yet still finishes remarkably fresh. While not the last note on depth, the 2020 is really quite lovely. (Eric Guido, Vinous, April 2022)

'Vin Soave' Soave Classico Garganega 2020

Delectable Wine
8.9

The 2020 Vin Soave shows lemon oils, yellow flowers and crushed rocks in its very pretty and lifted bouquet. This is round in feel with piercing minerals and juicy acids to balance. It’s salty and floral while leaving hints of saline-tinged lime through the long finish. This is very nice for the price point. (Eric Guido, Vinous, April 2022)
