Clos Saint Jean

Vieilles Vignes Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2019

Excellent CDP, bright fruit (raspberries/strawberries) on the nose, follows through on the palate, well balanced - only drawback is a slight wooden feel on the back end but easy to look past. Opened up wonderfully after a couple hours. JW big fan. Powerful enough to stand up to red meat despite being a Rhône — 2 hours ago

Château Faizeau

Sélection Vieilles Vignes Montagne St. Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2005

Good fruit but funky nose and too acidic, despite the age. Paired with ribeye and the meat seemed to elevate the acidity - not pleasant. After two hours, still wooden and musty. Though fruit persisted nicely — 5 years ago

R. López de Heredia

Viña Bosconia Reserva Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2013

Tasting notes during visit to the winery where absolutely everything is done in-house by hand; preserving centuries old winemaking traditions. Bosconia is a delicate wine highlighted by persistent tones of red berries and bright acidity with integrated tannins closing with medium but lingering finish.

No stainless steel here. The juice is fermented in old large wooden “tinas,” then transferred to American oak barrels (made in house to lighter toast specifications), underground in their +100 year old cellars for at least a year. After that it is bottled and stored in the same underground cellars and finally released about ten years later. Learning about their curated winemaking process was inspiring.

Aberrant Cellars

Confero Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 2016

The anti-fruity Pinot - gorgeous nose, very reserved, maybe the slightest bit wooden but still nicely rounded. J loves it. Opened ~90 mins early which might have toned it down — 5 years ago

Šibenik Plavac Mali 2015

Incredible, fragrant nose - sandalwood and bursting with black currant, maybe some black tea in there, too. Dry mouthfeel, like wool socks that were kept in a wooden drawer all season and then somehow got left out in the rain. — 4 years ago
