Twisted Oak

Kelly Family Vineyards

Oak Knoll District Merlot 2012

Bright cherry red with light purple accents. Mostly ripe red fruits on the somewhat simple nose joined by spice and herbs. Simple, or rather straightforward is a perfect way to describe this Merlot. A no frills, well made wine with none of the bells and whistles. Medium bodied with mild acid and round tannins. Wonderfully lush tannins. Fresh cherries and blackberries on the palate being supported by new leather, spice box, and warm chocolate. Pick this one up, it’s fun stuff. — 5 days ago

Oak Knoll Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Not a bad little wine. Pretty good QPR. The wine pours very dark into the glass. Nose of herbs, stiff oak and red licorice. Enters with youthful sweetness. Definitely quite a bit fruit forward. More tobacco leaf with oregano and rosemary on the mid-palate. Finishes with black cherry, red licorice, tobacco, and stiff oak barrel tannin. I'd be surprised if this one lasted 10 years in the future, but I can definitely see the benefits of holding for 3 to 5 years here. — 23 days ago

Silver Oak

Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

I can’t hardly believe my luck - found this at a local grill house bar restaurant in MD for $85 on their cellar clearance wine menu. Truthfully I hadn’t had this nice of a #napacabernet in quite some time. Bold fruit on the nose but some nice earth, acidity and elegance on the finish with fine tannins. Unmistakably Napa and delicious. Beautiful pairing for upscale meatloaf. — 10 days ago

Oak Knoll, a cooler part of Napa. Still has pronounced oak, typical Napa style. — 5 days ago

El Mayor

French Oak Chardonnay Cask Finish

Aged 9 months in French Chardonnay barrels. I’ve skipped the scotch & whiskey barrel aged tequilas, just buy an extra aged Anejo or Mezcal🤷🏼‍♂️. But this is unique, definitely worth the $$

Smooth operator, none of that artificial sweetness tastes, just a hint of Chardonnay to take the edge off, like a sauterne cask aged scotch

Chronic Cellars

Giant Oak Chardonnay

Chronic Cellars I discovered in a local restaurant. So I went to their website and ordered their higher end wines and let me tell you this, KAPOW! Winds around $30 that drink every bit as good as a $200 bottle red!!!!!! This one is Chronic Cellars Giant Oak red blend: 75% tennat ( a popular grape in Argentina and Uruguay), 17% petite Sirah, and 8% syrah. If you follow my ratings you know I am a big bold cab guy. When I say this is as good as any cab than I’ve ever had I am serious and it’s only 30 bucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No I have not been drinking before drinking. I am drinking both hall Cabernet and this chronic side-by-side as we speak and wow! Yes, I do love the cab a little bit better but not by much that’s the reason giant oak gets a perfect score! The difference is where giant oak has more tartness the Hall Cabernet Howell Mountain has more butter! But for my personal palate and the cost of the wine I pick giant oak. And all of you know what I spend on wine! I bought a case!!! — 19 days ago

This vintage has some depth and complexity. The tannins are settling and if you enjoy chewing on wine I’d recommend this for sure. — 6 days ago

Oak Aged Merlot 2018

Medium body, fruity, with a spicy kick. I've loved every wine from this brand so far! Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Chardonnay, and now Merlot is what what I've tried. — 3 days ago
