Château Mouton Rothschild

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 1995

The most showy bottle I’ve had of this wine, 95 Mouton is in a terrific place, and an absolute classic, with Paulliac power and concentration, fine grained tannins and hugely persistent finish. Fantastic with the legendary EMP duck! — 4 days ago

Clos du Val Wine Co.

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 1975

A nice comparison of French St. Julien and French winemaker, in the US with a Napa Cab.
The 1972 vintage was one of the legendary five Cabs selected for the 1976 Paris Tasting.

This 1975, had a deep garnet color with a brick rim. Loads of blackberry on the nose, casis and earthy notes. Fruit forward, black fruit and plum dominate, nice tannins. This wine definitely evolved through the evening.

Previous Notes Apply to the 75 St Julien:
Deep ruby color. Aromas of red fruit, leather and earthy notes. Amazing flavors, blackberry, black currant, tobacco and baking spices.

Sometimes one just needs to be lucky one day and 85 year old guy showed up a the wine tasting in the store with a 1971 Mayacamas Vineyards Cab. An experience i never forget. Because of the wine and the store owner declaring me as underinformed when suggested it was in the tasting. The wine was good but fell apart within 15min.

Chateau Montelena

The Montelena Estate Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 1994

Absolutely beautiful Montelena Cabernet, violets, beautiful aromatics, still some structure (and this seems to have 10+ more years of ageability, long, lingering finish, really a super fine bottle of this wine (last bottle seemed fully mature)!! — 12 days ago

R. López de Heredia

Viña Tondonia Reserva Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2012

I don‘t know. This has so much oak it overpowers everything. Might need another 10 years to be approachable. Cigar box, black berries. Deep, big and profound. I am not sure I would spend 70$ on this. It needs much much more time. Probably needs to be open for 2 days. Out of the machine at the Wine House in LA. — 4 days ago

We have a 2007 Magnum and plan on holding for a few more years. Well-aged Rioja is a treasure

Château Lynch-Bages

Grand Cru Classé Pauillac Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 1990

1990 vintage. Last tasted 12.11.22 (9.6) and 8.20.16 (9.2-slightly off bottle). Tasted side by side with the 1989 (9.4) version of this wine. Ridiculous 1-2 heavyweight punch. Opened but not decanted. Tasted at the conclusion of lunch after an hour open. Not much in the nose but bringing it in the flavors. Still heavy bits of ripe plum and cherry with a substantial mid-palate. Larger format of this wine likely clocks in as a 9.6/9.7 but this was a 750ml. In the 750ml format, not improving and it's drink now and until 2028. Still, most likely, the best wine this producer has ever made. The 1989 has a case as well. Like the Lebowski rug, this one just tied the late-80's/early-90's BDX room together. 10.10.25. — 19 days ago

Bedrock Wine Co.

Old Vine Zinfandel 2020

I’ve waxed (eloquent? Well, at least waxed!! 🤔) about the virtues and quality of this excellent 2020 Zinfandel multiple times, but this wine is still punching well above its weight (the so-called “leftovers” that didn’t make the single vineyard cut), long finish, lovely!! Going to the Bedrock pickup party in Sonoma tomorrow to get some of the 2024s I’ve already purchased, so this is a great warmup!! — 19 days ago

Shafer Vineyards

Hillside Select Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

Opened and decanted for 2 hours before dinner and then really only opened up and truly hit expectations around the 3rd hour when paired with wagyu strip steaks.

This wine was savory tightly wound and tannic at first. Didn’t show much fruit until after the long decant and then it really changed.

With time, the fruits shown through with great complexity and great balance for the savory elements.

Château Palmer

Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2005

2 hour decant(little fine sediment). A splendid dark magenta with some bricking. On the nose: subdued but enticing notes of blackberry, cassis, cigar wrapper, clove, pine, maybe a touch of brett. Taste: silky, still youthful at 20 wine with blackberry, red fruit, graphite, spice, and a medium smokey licorice tar finish. YUM..good but expecting more for the year..will wait a few years for next attempt. — 4 days ago
