I’ve been COVID remiss failing to rate the many wines I ushered into that good night during various shutdowns. Tonight I visit my favorite AZ resto Constantino’s. And, experience my favorite wine value in quite some time. At $50/resto and $28/retail, this exceptionally generous flavor provider cannot be ignored. If you note the dearth of excruciatingly correct wine descripto lingo, then you understand my rate stylings. Then again, when I rate something highly, the wine is worth your time. — 4 years ago
Absolutely delicious. If there's any wine that mashes the "yummy button", this is it. So jealous of the generous provider of tonight's WOTN. @Martin G Rivard @David L you guys should be here!! — 7 years ago
When I first tasted this with Coravin we were sure it had TCA, but it wasn’t excessively bitter or astringent and it had plenty of rich ripe black fruit...so I uncorked it today and the cork definitely smells of old winery, old church and almost pine trees but I wouldn’t call it corked cork. Even with the cork issue the wine has a smooth oily attack and firm fine-grained tannins. I am thoroughly enjoying it. #bolgheri #tuscany #italy #supertuscan The winery should definitely look into their cork provider. — 4 years ago
Tasted blind. Deep, dark amber tinged and tawny color. Hits me immediately as a gravel-influenced Bordeaux and I’m am in Graves with my guess. Notes of tobacco, graphite, ash, earth and gravel stone. Big shoulders, and a little hot. Yet silky in the mouth. I guess 82 La Mish HB. This has plenty of life in front of it, but give it 5+ hrs of air if consuming in the near term as the provider of this wine did. — 4 years ago
Part of Super Tuscan Horizontal tasting. All 2016 vintage Masseto, Ornellaia, Sassicaia, Solaia, Tignanello, Redigafi, and a mystery bottle (Phelps Insignia). The color of this wine was red, not purple like I was expecting. It was more Burgundian than Bordeaux-like. A bit on the subtle side. Refined. Still had good cherry and other red fruits, not overly tannic or oaky like I was expecting. This was a good wine, but my least favorite of the night. We had 2 bottles at the tasting and both drank the same. Not the typical Sassicaia profile and definitely not a 100 pt wine in my opinion. It was enough different than other Sassicaia I have had over the years that it left me scratching my head. I plan to source another bottle form a different purveyor to see if this was just an off lot. It was sourced from a reputable provider and has been in my cellar settling for a few months. — 4 years ago
Sort of a fruit bomb for a cab. No surprise given host/provider. Maybe needs another 5 years? — 7 years ago
This Merlot is from Morwald Vineyards in Austria. Morwald is the provider of wines for Viking River Cruises. Lovely award winning wine. Paired with corn beef dinner. — 8 years ago
