Baronesa de Vilar

Reserva Douro Red Blend 2018

Ah, the "Baronesa de Vilar Reserva Douro Red Blend," a splendid tribute to the enchanting Douro Valley of Portugal, unfurling beneath the nurturing sun and rugged terroir. One savors the deep, ruby-red elixir, where ripe black fruits entwine with whispers of vanilla and subtle spice—like a sultry tango between plum and cinnamon with a cheeky touch of oak.

The producer, the illustrious D. Ferreira, has roots tracing back to 1751, blending a storied past with the art of winemaking. Their devotion is akin to a Shakespearean romance—filled with drama and rustic allure.

Among its noble ingredients, you’ll find Tinta Roriz and Touriga Nacional; a veritable duo captivating the palate. Fun fact: Tinta Roriz, or Tempranillo, is not one to be trifled with—it’s as versatile as a thesbian on opening night.

Pair this beauty with lamb shanks or a rich mushroom risotto; the umami harmonizes splendidly, like a velvet glove on a glistening hand. Rated a polished 92 points by Wine Enthusiast, let this morsel of joy roll upon your tongue, but be careful—too much may leave you reclining dramatically, proclaiming “what a departure!”

Monteviña

Terra d'Oro Deaver Vineyard Old Vines Zinfandel 1997

Matt Austin
9.1

Classic aged zin from some of the oldest existing vines in the USA. Probably a bit past peak, but no need to hurry up in drinking these as it should hold for another decade. Mega 90’s bottle art, complete with super tall bottle. — 4 years ago

Faccia di botte Piave Raboso 2014

June 29, 2019. Dinner w/ J2, Jack D, KK. Celebrating KKs work transition. Wine 2. This was purchased at the vineyard last year. So lovely. Returned this year for more. Their Prosecco is excellent, too. Not to mention the lovely location and art venue. — 6 years ago

Cama Brut Valdobbiadene Superiore Prosecco 2018

July 2, 2020. Dinner w/ Jack D & KK. Goodbye to KK ☹️. Purchased at the vineyard May 2019. My favorite Prosecco vineyard to visit, beautiful wine and art. This brut is delicate with fruit (hints of apple) and floral aromas. This was my last bottle, can’t wait to return! — 5 years ago

Terra Alta Domus Pensi 2013

Here I am in Zion National Park. While my pizza was being made in a wood-fired brick oven, I'm listening to a kitchen staff member playing a 12 string Fender acoustic guitar IN THE KITCHEN while sipping an Alta Vins. Domus Pensi 2013. Delicious blend. Paired with a roasted vegetable pizza.....sublime. No one expect d this. Buy this wine. Please. You'll love it. — 7 years ago

Canoso

Terra Valpolicella Superiore Corvina Blend

Waw. Everytime you open a bottle you think, this is it. In the meanwhile this 2015 became aged. It's glance in the glas is tanned, it's odour only reflects his noble descendent, doesn't reveal his age and proves the freshness of sour cherries, which I adore so much in Italian viniculture. For some of us the acid shock when touching the tongue will be to much, though a warm blancket of soft ripened tannins will cover the trauma. This taste will linger on in the upper back of the palate for ages, hardly discribable, but offering continuous joy, a fluent of dopamine and oxytocine, so comforting. Consider yourself priviliged if you ever get the opportunity to try this piece of vinious art. — 2 years ago

Monteverro

Terra di Monteverro Toscana Red Blend 2014

July 7, 2021. Dinner w/KK 😁 Jack D, and J2. Celebrating KK return to CoMO, albeit just a visit. She brought pizza, I pulled out this wine. Perfect w/pizza and a lovely super Tuscan from Maremma. 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Cabernet Franc, 20% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot. Slightly different than the 2012 vintage I drank and rated in March. This is just as yummy, though less aged so more fruit (dark cherry) and less earth and leather. Still wonderful. Drank both bottles I had. Need more! — 3 years ago
