Very opulent nose. Grapefruit, pineapple and lovely stoniness. Herbal, citrus. Lanolin. Just a wonderful nose. After air this gets gloriously mineral. Elegant, ripe and juicy. Nice tang and tartness on the finish and great persistence. Nice energy and great complexity. Like licking citrus on that has been thrown on a rock by Roger Clemens in his prime. Delicious. — 17 days ago
This is 2018 in a 2017 bottle. Finally. This is as advertised as Sven was going crazy over this wine. Well, as much as a reserved German guy can go crazy. Stunning nose. Just bananas great. Deep red and black cherry and just perfect ripeness. Heavenly spices and unreal depth and refinement. That’s what makes this special. The refinement. This nose is a 9.6. Easy. So nimble and spicey. It’s so layered. Unreal black and red cherry. Just sick! Since 2014 he has improved so much with his Pinot. Wow, so lush and suave on the palate with such freshness and purity. Also the appropriate amount of leanness. Rich but nimble and so focused. Nose keeps getting more expansive and more complex. Nose gets licorice and cherry flower with air. Also cherry pastille. So juicy and with terrific structure. Elegant and velvety tannins and really has structure to burn. This will age gloriously. Terrific inner mouth aromas. But I can tell this needs an hour to really shine. And it will.
Wow this is sick. Super sweet fruit. Finish is killer. Awesome purity. Lipstick like intensity. Superb cherries. Super concentration. — 2 months ago
Rich nose which is typical for this wine. Honeyed, also some nougat, spice, herbs, so complex. Smell decadent but also has restraint. Tree bark, lemon pith, lanolin. Super complex. Palate is incisive, rich and pure. But it lacks the energy of the 19 ngl. Good acidity and minerality and tons of dry extract. Delicious but again, the 19 crushes it. — 3 months ago
Super citrus and grapefruit. Fleshy and also pithy. Peach pit. Lovely intense minerals. Super expressive nose that is serene and zen. Some confectionary notes as well. Very very complex. Wow. Great complexity and depth. Very salty. A bit closed but so pretty and vivid. Almost in 4D. Complex stoniness on the nose after a bit of air. Superb spices and herbs as well. So lively with so much energy and citrus intensity. Really long easily best Hochborn ever. Nose is getting confectionary.
After some air it’s got such a classic nose. Airy and confectionary. Melon. Cantaloupe. Terrific rock candy sweet minerality. — a month ago
A new one to me. Nose is rich with hints of phyllo dough, lemon pepper, lime zest, herbs, citrus and more. Wow, palate is electric! 19 rocks in Baden! Terrific purity and delicacy. This is truly wonderful on PnP. Elegant and fresh with terrific and playful minerality. Nose develops more wet earth and Baden “sous bois.” Nose just keeps unfurling. Terrific. Terrific density, concentration and explosiveness. Finish is sneaky long. This is such a complete wine. Hugely mineral wine. Terrific. I think my score will go higher. — 3 months ago
The “Seven” wines are aged in wood. Think some of it is new. Big, rich, mineral and opulent nose. Smells a bit ML like. Palate is creamy and ripe. The wood is a bit much but well integrated. Nice minerality and freshness but at the end of the day this is too woody for me — 4 months ago
Wow. What an insane complex nose. Citrus pith, awesome confectionary aromas. Really really aromatic grapefruit. Pink with sugar. Huge minerals and rocks. Smells almost volcanic. Complex, deep and super duper closed but also a gorgeous pitter patter of minerals. Perfect balance. Most closed young Kastanienbusch ever. But the energy and purity are out of this world. So elegant and finesse driven but with so much material. Finish is getting longer and fanning out. So complete and no extra flesh like in 18. — a month ago
@Delectable Wine this is just called “Pinot Noir. Thanks.
This is a blend of 30% 17 and 70% 18 as Sven thought 17 was too light. Stunning nose. Ethereal sour and sweet mid season cherries. Wild mint and spice. What a palate. Wonderful purity, crunch, sweetness and silky depth. Awesome. Really elegant and lovey persistence. So delicate and lacey. Velvety tannins and just a hint of bitterness on the finish which adds to the appeal. Such sultry fruit. All red fruits all day. Terrific minerality comes through on the finish. Needs a bit of air. I’ll be back.
Wow now the nose rocks. Honeyed, floral, grassy, herbal, so so good. Smells like a scene in nature. Insane florals. Elegant and sweeter fruit. Still the bitterness is there. — 3 months ago
What a great wine. A brilliant version of this. Lemon oil, huge minerals, some green tea. So delicate and playful. Citrus. Citrus jelly. Really clear and mineral. Huge acid and drive on the palate. Amazing texture. Lime and rock flavors mixed with some killer herbals and bitters. Awesome structure and density but so lithe. Mosel like nimbleness and purity. Just a terrific terrific bottle. Really the biggest revelation of these recent 19 Riesling Tastings. This has just crazy and acidity and freshness. What a finish. Lime sweet tart such mineral drive on this. — 4 months ago
