La Jota Vineyard Co.

Anniversary Release Cabernet Sauvignon 1997

Yet another Napa Quake survivor. Probably my favorite winery and wine (really the Cabernet Franc) this old friend (was going to gal, but trying stay under the radar) held up just fine. @LaJotaVineyards — 2 years ago

Unbelievably good! Poor condition bottle, but a lively survivor wine. Everyone needs to drink 20yo Mosel! — 4 years ago

Beaux Frères

The Beaux Frères Vineyard Pinot Noir 2009

2009, hard decant, 30 minutes before first pour. Despite the hot temperatures of the vintage, this 09 is a survivor. — 5 years ago

Versante Nord Terre Siciliane Nerello Mascalese 2016

It’s a hard grape to grow, as you know. It’s thin-skinned, temperamental. It’s not a survivor like Cabernet that can grow anywhere and thrive even when neglected. PINOT needs constant care and attention, you know? And in fact it can only grow in these really specific, little, tucked away corners of the world. And, and only the most patient and nurturing of growers can do it, really. Only somebody who really takes the time… to understand PINOT’S potential… can then coax it into its fullest expression.” — a year ago

Cascina Francia Barolo Nebbiolo 2005

I am a complete fan for this wine and producer. I have enjoyed different vintages and it has been a very consistent joy. This one is no different. Despite a crumbly cork.. the wine was a survivor! Rich perfume from the start. It’s special and it’s deep. Love the classic Barolo color. Purple at center brightening from there to orange at the rim. It’s still clear when you swirl to look through it and it has excellent lines. This wine has weight and heft. It lingers on the palate and covers with depth and an array of flavors and feels. My most obvious assessor applies to this wine. I can always tell what I like best by how fast it goes. This went down lightning fast. It opened well and because the cork was garbage it required a decant which I likely would have done anyway… Seventeen years in I would say this one has matured to its near peak. Fantastic bottle of wine. — 2 years ago

Hardys

Stamp of Australia Merlot 2015

2015 vintage blend, for $12.49 USD. Drinking at Grand Bahamas Yacht Club Marina in Dec. 2019. Okay, this was sooooo good we went running back to the liquor store to buy their last bottle. Seriously complex dark merlot. Hurricane Dorian survivor with notes of black currant, dark cherry and oak. Complex merlot? Is that an oxymoron? Maybe Merlot needs to survive a Cat 5 hurricane to make it compelling. — 5 years ago
