Fteri Pelopponisos Moschofilero 2020

9.1

This was impressive & fun: it pours pale yellowish green and immediately throws grapefruit & ginger, just so floral - jasmine & honeysuckle like some Gewurz I’ve had. Lime peel, saline, salty & surly - terrific nose whose flavors were mirrored on palate. Great acidic backbone, kinda nervy but also nice mouthfeel. Just a pleasurable experience — 7 months ago

Maté's Vineyard Chardonnay 2016

Still a bit surly but massive potential. A big and serious nose of reductive smoke, apple, cut grass, and lemon. This is a full bodied powerful wine but there is still a feeling that there is more to come once this properly unfurls. Sour apple, mealy bread, wrapped in toffee. Creamy, but with a solid steak of sour acidity. Amazing length. True GC structure but 5+ years to truly express itself. — 2 years ago

@Big Wave Dave I recently posted on the 2019, our experiences sound similar.

La Serra Barolo Nebbiolo 1997

Surprisingly young for the 23 years it’s been in the bottle. I suppose there’s fruit, but hard to tell what exactly as not much acid. Ferrous. More surly than bright, but no rough edges. Quite good. — 4 years ago

Mercurey Chardonnay 2020

Long acids. Very good. Bought from a great little wine shop in Petworth in the South Downs here in the UK, just after having a fantastic lunch at a spot called E. Street Bar & Grill which is a terrible name for an absolutely exemplary little bistro with great seafood and wine. And with the perfect slightly surly but extremely accommodating and professional French maitre d. Anyway, if you happen to pass through check it out. — a year ago

This was young and went through many phases of open and closed with no rhyme or reason. This was surly at times and superbly expressive, gritty NSG’ey and also sweet and floral. But also closed shut a few times. It is all there but hold off 3-4 years. — a year ago

Stickies have its place. This one surly does though at this point not sure it will live up to the 100pts it was given. — a year ago

Améthyste Côte-Rôtie Syrah 2016

Surly and reductive upon opening, smacking of leathery barnyard, but there is a sleeping giant below, emerging with notes of blackberry liqueur, black pepper, and smoke. Voluminous. Considerable upside with age (unless the Brett takes over), but for now, give it plenty of air. — 3 years ago

Underwood Mountain Sauv Blanc... Wow! Best SB I’ve tasted all year. Most like Sancerre of any US wine I’ve had. Plenty herbal w/ Cat Pee and snap peas but also super fresh lime flavors and racy acidity. Not for everyone but I was surly impressed. Bravo — 4 years ago
