Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon 1995

Very classic BDX style. The Owner and the winemaker of La Conseillante were convinced drinking Bordeaux left bank — 2 days ago

Sea Smoke

Ten Santa Barbara County Pinot Noir 2011

The anticipation and patience displayed holding this for 10 years was amply rewarded. Clear, brick-ish color, tight nose that eventually opened to loads of red fruit, Burgundy like in its combination of lushness and reserve. Subtle and layered even after all these years. — 20 days ago

Ciel du Cheval Vineyard Cabernet Franc - Merlot Blend 2017

I used to drink a lot of Andrew Will wines. Stumbled on this last week. More will be bought. Has some age to it that has softened the tannins. Black cherry and raspberry. Velvety smooth. — a month ago

Ten Estate Vineyard Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir

A lovely wine. Raspberries, black cherries, and plums. I slightly prefer the 2016, but this is still an excellent wine. — 14 days ago

Drinking window wide open! Black cherry, black plum, licorice, and tobacco with currant covered tannins. Everything comes together so well with minute long finish of crème de cassis. Knocked out by this. — a month ago

Bodega Catena Zapata

High Mountain Vines Mendoza Malbec 2019

Really good Malbec, still some tannic strength, but complex and full bodied, with some dried dark cherries and cocoa or tobacco. Lingers really well — 14 hours ago

I haven’t really enjoyed this producer due to how much ABV it shows, This was the first time it didn’t burn the back of my throat. Still big and dark. It’s a 30 plus year wine. — 23 days ago

Quilceda Creek

Galitzine Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon

2020 opened March 2024. I previously reviewed the 2018 — which was a fantastic wine which I gave a 9.8! Unfortunately the 2020 is not nearly as interesting. After decanting, it opened up quickly and faded. Still, it’s not a bad wine. It’s just not as great as its predecessor was. Mint and licorice on the nose. Candied cherries and sage on the front of the pallet. It has a medium body, but the tannic structure is kind of wooly — Feels like I’m tasting a cotton ball. But it has a long finish with strong mineral notes that remind me of volcanics soils. There’s a faint, creosote aftertaste on the finish , though. don’t get me wrong, it’s very drinkable — but it would need a big rare juicy steak to cover up that annoying creosote finish, and I don’t have one available at the moment. — a month ago
