Saint Germain

Domaine Germain Pere & Fils

Saint Romain Chardonnay 2017

Saint-Romain is always a bit different. Acidity, but also a buttery taste. Like it.
Had the 2017 vintage October 2020.

Pierre Gonon

Saint-Joseph Syrah 2016

Love every vintage of Gonon- the best St. Joseph IMO. So expressive and giving seemingly at any age, as it was here with 2016. My second 2016 in the last few months. Signature inky purple. Deep and intense with great texture showing black fruits, liquid minerals, newly bloomed violets, black olive and hints of cacao. Wonderful concentration, energy and finesse. Stains the palate with a long and assertive finish. Excellent. — 13 days ago

Les Fairendes Morgeots Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Chardonnay 2016

Always a great bottle at this domaine. Medium bodied, not the deepest but very classy, elegant, pure fruit, mineral, with enough richness and roundness for great balance. Really delicious. 91-92

Superbe bouteille de Germain comme toujours, quelle classe. De corps moyen, pas le plus profond et le plus riche mais frais, élégant, minéral, du fruit pur avec juste assez de rondeur et de richesse, un vrai délice. 91-92

Domaine Julien Cécillon

Babylone Saint-Joseph Syrah 2016

Very dark in color, so surprising when the palate shows more red fruit than anything else. This has some savory character and some acidic structure, but tannins are a bit soft. The nose is cracked pepper and some darker fruit. This is a nice wine, but I’d say it drinks more like a balanced new world offering than a St Joseph. — 2 hours ago

Cavanos Saint Joseph Syrah 2016

Consumed directly after the 2015 Cornas “Le Village”. This was just a notch below that wine in my opinion. Right now, the structure is taking center stage and not allowing the fruit to deliver in the same way its cousin is giving. I also think the Cornas showed more complexity. Not that this isn’t endowed with fruit or complexity. A very lovely wine though. — 5 days ago

Château Cos d'Estournel

Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2004

David T

Allen Brothers Ribcap wine.

2004 not the best Bordeaux vintage but, certainly not bad. What was disappointing was how not ready this was to drink. Normally, a lesser than grand vintage 14 years in bottle Cos would have blossomed better. Good but, not what I was hoping for with my Ribcap. Still showing a fair amount of primary characteristics & a touch astringent.

It will be 5-8 years before I open another.

Truly one of the more grand Chateaus in Bordeaux.

Domaine les Alexandrins

Saint Joseph Syrah 2015

This is having a great moment. Smoke, olives, dark berry fruit, blueberry. Huge granite and deep mineral tones. Juicy, so fresh, deep and concentrated with outrageous purity and a long finish. Loads of medium to dark berry fruit and really really long finish and also serious structure. What a showing. This has got 15+ years ahead of it but is fun today. These wines will last a long time. — 10 days ago

For a 30$ wine at the time this was great but what remains should be consumed fast — 17 hours ago

Château Pavie Macquin

Saint-Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2014

I’ve seen mixed reviews on this wine and vintage; must admit I was weary about opening it. My bottle has been properly cellared for several years and decanted for forty minutes before drinking. Fortunately the wine is excellent in my opinion; very rich, luscious and decadent. Complex and evolving with a long finish. Cheers and a shame for those bad bottles but it’s all part of the love of wine... — 16 days ago
