Poggio Siresa

Castello di Monsanto

Il Poggio Riserva Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 1982

This bottled was purchased at the estate last year; double-decanted earlier in the day and enjoyed over the course of a couple hours. The 1982 “Il Poggio” Riserva pours a deep garnet color with a near opaque core; medium viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is vinous with notes of ripe and dried Morello cherry, red rope licorice, my grandmother’s attic, old leather bound books and dry, iron rich earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin (integrated) and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+ with ferrous minerals. What a lovely, mature Riserva and killer with mushroom risotto. I wouldn’t worry about this dropping off a cliff anytime soon but this is ready to drink now through 2037+ — 7 days ago

Podere Poggio Scalette

Il Carbonaione Alta Valle della Greve IGT Sangiovese 2012

From a double-magnum. The 2012 “Il Carbonaione” pours a deep garnet color with a translucent core; medium viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing and initially reticent. After almost an hour of air, the bouquet emerged to reveal some funky cherry, red flowers, bergamot, horse blanket, green herbs, old wood and dry earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose, the finish is medium+. After plenty of air, this became really tasty stuff but the large format has really retarded the aging process. Similar bottles likely need well into the next decade to enter the zone. Killer with food. — 22 days ago

Poggio al Tufo Rompicollo Maremma Toscana Sangiovese Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2021

Friends brought this over and I love this blend! Strong hints of blackberry, pomegranate, a hint of cranberry. Super smooth and perfect acidity. I love this. — 2 days ago

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2019

Tasted it at Salute wine bar immediately cherry flavor and smell.

Tasting: cherry, black plum, wild herb, leather, and spiced mocha notes, while a finely textured cloak of cannons and striking acidity provide the structural integrity for graceful bottle aging

Power and grace. Somehow this feels like a wine of wisdom. Mature, carressing, full of warmth and comfort. Long, elegant, classy. — 2 months ago

Poggio al Tesoro

Solosole Bolgheri Vermentino 2023

Back in Zurich, eating takeaway Thai outside! Great wine with the curry. Light, dry, mineral. Lemon, floral, pear, apricot, some mint. Dry crisp bitter finish. I had the 2020 vintage a few years ago, but I can’t remember how it compares. — 5 months ago
