After a 4-hour decant, this beauty is just starting to open up.
With a medium garnet hue, this wine offers medium+ aromas and flavors of blackberry bramble, black cherry clafoutis, plum, fig, orange peel, stewed strawberry, pomegranate, violet, black licorice, black tea, star anise, nutmeg, vanilla, clove, leather, cured meat, and forest floor.
It’s both rugged and nuanced with a story to tell. Words that spring to mind to describe this wine are complexity, depth, and dimension with years and years of life ahead of it.
The high alcohol of 14.5% ABV matches the strength of other structural components such as acidity, aroma and flavor concentration, tannins, and body. It’s balanced with a lingering finish leaving us wanting more! — a month ago
1.5 hour decant(little fine/cloudy sediment). A majestic deep ruby red color. On the nose: perfumed nose of plum, smoked meat, old leather, eucalyptus, burnt cedar, green veggie. Taste: smooth, slightly creamy, elegant, structured wine with black plum, currants, herbaceous, nutty chocolate, leather, graphite and a long peppery savory dry finish. YUM!
The financial crisis and excess wine to sell had the 08 1st growths all priced less than $200 a bottle so I bought a bunch. At 15 years, it's finally time to check em all out. This Mouton is a nice start. — 9 days ago
Catching up on old notes. Drank this magnum with extended family on Christmas Eve. A rich ripe full bodied style showing plum and chocolate. Two Hands seems like one of those labels like Mollydooker which are better known in the USA than in Australia. — a month ago
Blend of 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot & 3% Petit Verdot, deep Ruby with aromas of black fruit and floral aromas. On the palate blackberry, currant and plum flavors with cacao, tobacco and oak notes. Fine tannins, long finish, good balance ending with fruit, cacao, tobacco, earthy herbs and toasty cedar notes. Will age another 10 years! — 2 months ago
Oldest in the Penfolds portfolio, Wine includes fruit from Barossa, McLaren Vale, Padthaway and Wrattonbully vineyards, aged in American oak. Deep Ruby with aromas of dark berry fruits and sweet spice. On the palate ripe blackberry, plum and cherry flavors with cacao, espresso and vanilla oak. Vivid acidity, rich ripe fine tannins, long finish ending with fruit and a bit of spice, very nice! Good value with aging potential. — a month ago
Earthy damp leaves and rain on the nose. Dark fruit like plum, blackberry, cherry. Some fairly healthy acid and tannins that give it more of a dry finish but not overwhelming so. Opens up nicely as it sits. Was a bit tight when first opened but given it’s a 2017 that’s to be expected. — a month ago
