La Maltroie Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Chardonnay 2013

Decent mid-weight white burgundy, but not all that exciting. Clean, crisp, nicely balanced but with absolutely no “wow”. You have to question the price/quality ratio with wines of this type. Kiss of death is almost no sense of “terroir” or place—- just another dry white! — a day ago

Château Mouton Rothschild Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 1966

Hands down the most exemplary showing from Bordeaux of my birth year vintage. First of all, a spectacular night spent with @Mike R and @David L at Somni in Beverly Hills for a transcendent foundation shaking 20 course meal that will linger in my memory for decades. Mike sourced this bottle in Raleigh from someone who purchased on release and it screamed provenance. I was blown away by this bottle. Delicious graphite and plum fragrance on pop, zero musty vibes, cloudy garnet in the glass but showing absolutely no loss of weight, gravitas or structure. Ample rich fruit, dusty mouth staining tannins and a full, silky, sexy finish. This was next level. Thank you @Mike R for this. It is without a doubt a benchmark wine for me. — 13 days ago

Bourgogne Blanc Chardonnay 2014

Saturday lunch at home with friends. All tasters very impressed with this Village Bourgogne from the 2014 vintage which was excellent for whites. Great intensity and tension for a village wine. Good minerality. No time for detailed notes. Went well with fresh Tasmanian oysters. — 2 days ago

Vieilles Vignes Nuits St. Georges Pinot Noir 2016

Draws a fine line between concentration, grace, and structure. The black cherry and pomegranate fruit is deep, mixing ripe with a touch kirsch. Classic NSG savory notes come through but framed by an alluring floral side. Game, iron, hung meat, licorice, floral pastille, sandalwood and cedar. The fruits richness shines up front on the palate, and he wine departs with a compact mineral touch and very fine tannin. This packs a lot of length, complexity, and balance for a village wine with purity that really helps it punch above its weight. — 22 days ago

"Les Chassignols" Moulin-à-Vent Gamay 2016

Serious cellar potential, and that is probably where this one belongs for awhile. Very primary, dense, juicy and structured. Crunchy wild berries, gravelly mineral character and slightly herbaceous. This bottling needs more time than even the grand reserve Juliénas because of its much shorter elevage and early release time. It will surely reward, but showing some mutedness now.

*Day 3* Already considerably more rewarding. The tannin structure is muscular but supple, and there is more mid palate density and clarity. Showing some dried fruit aromas at this stage, but not to the point of feeling tired. I’m more confident that this will drink well in 2021 or perhaps 2020.
