Marqués de Riscal

Reserva Herederos del Marques de Riscal Rioja Tempranillo 2018

Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.

Beautiful nose of black currants, plums, licorice, light oak, spices, chocolates, earth, eucalyptus and black pepper.

Medium plus in body with medium plus acidity.

Dry on the palate with currants, plums, cooked cherries, spices, oak, licorice, tobacco, herbs, earth, dark chocolates, coffee and peppercorn.

Medium finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This 7 year old Rioja is starting to drink very nicely now. Elegant and nicely balanced. Complex and entertaining.

Will continue to age nicely in the next 5 to 7 years.

Good by itself as a sipping wine or with food.

14% alcohol by volume.

91 points.

Chateau Montelena

The Montelena Estate Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

2015 vintage. Opened and decanted. Tasted after 2 hours open. Medium-medium heavy body. Some feminine-styled fruit offerings but lacking grip/tannins and balance. Underwhelming based on tasting this offering since 1983. BLNT. 12.04.25. — 6 days ago

@Scott@Mister A’s-San Diego, I’ve been lucky enough to taste older Montelena Cabs back as far as 1977, and while I have WAY LESS recent experiences (post-1995 vintages), I feel like there have been huge stylistic changes from the 1970s/1980s vintages, not necessarily for the better. But, that’s OK, just not for me personally.

La Rioja Alta

Reserva Viña Ardanza Rioja Tempranillo Garnacha 2019

Heavenly, fruit aroma, and smooth palate- very fruit forward, lower acidity and tannins, but balanced. Delicious! — 12 days ago

Viña Bosconia Reserva Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2004

Always love the wines from LdH and this is no exception. Very nice at just over 20 years of age. Definitely secondary, no need to wait longer. Opened for a few hours before service but no decant. Red berry fruit, nice seamlessness, great acid and a long finish. Perfect pairing with roast chickens on Thanksgiving part 2. — 12 days ago

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

A young Montelena- deep purple color. Aromas of plum, blackberry and dried violets. Dark fruit on the palate, graphite and oak on the finish.

Viña Tondonia Reserva Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2011

Finally talked this dude into drinking.

I don't know, maybe I'm getting old but aged Riojas are starting to taste/feel weighty to me. It's very good. Muddled fruits, resolved tannins, nice and round, leather notes. But somewhat boring. Probably my mood.

Reserva Unfiltered Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2021

2021 vintage. Phenomenal value. Medium heavy body. Spicy conversation amongst fruit-driven interplay. Substantial but not deal-breaking tannins. 12.10.25. — 7 hours ago
