Hells Canyon

Deer Slayer Syrah 2004

Have a close look at the label. I guess that is how you bring your deer home after a hunting trip if you don’t have a pickup truck. This 17 year old Syrah from Idaho was getting over the top. Still very flavorful with dark spiced fruit but it was getting oxidized under notes. — 3 years ago

Coddington Chardonnay 2015

Gunpowder smoke and a reductive mealy depth dominate the nose. The palate is crisp, focused, mouthwatering. There is complexity and structure, and a dominant sourness to the aftertaste that is not unpleasant and gives incredible length. Quite different from the Hunting Hill (more forward) and the Mates (more closed but more to give). This is another superb wine, but it needs food in my view to balance the sourness. — 2 years ago

Château de Fargues

Sauternes Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 2008

2008 vintage. From the family that used to own Château d’Yquem until the turn of the century. 80% Semillon/20% Sauvignon Blanc. Vinified like d’Yquem and still a fantastic value. This is lights out, phenomenal juice. If you haven’t had, don’t miss out. Not a lot gets made so not exactly easy to find but definitely worth the time/trouble bounty hunting. — a year ago

Canterbury Pinot Noir 2015

Pale to mid crimson in colour. Lovely aromatics covering the spice spectrum, red flowers, mushroom, and herbs. A beautiful sweet spicy earthy palate. Elegant with underlying power - alluring. A very polished Pinot Noir. One of New Zealand ‘s best Pinots and not readily available in Australia but worth hunting down. Very impressive and great from the Zalto Burgundy glasses. Could be a Premier Cru from Vosne Romanee. — 3 years ago
