The palate is luxuriously silky with obvious grand cru and old vine concentration, particularly for the vintage, and there is beautiful purity and elegance to balance its power. Straddling Avize and Cramant, single vineyard BdB Chemin de Chalons, (also made by Jacques Selosse), is a stunning expression of the site and the iconic village of Avize. Dark ruby colour. Dense nose: oak, blackberry/blackcurrant, cedar, very Bordeaux. Palate, supple, balanced, medium-bodied, with rounded tannins. Final average duration. Correct for its price. Classic style: the perfect Saint-Émilion à Papa. Not my favourite style but for its price, it's correct.

Robe rubis sombre. Nez dense: chêne, mûre/cassis, cèdre, très bordelais. Bouche souple, équilibrée, moyennement corsée, aux tanins arrondis. Finale durée moyenne. Correct pour son prix. After a really great showing of Dujac’s 2013 Charmes last week I was excited to check in on Rousseau’s. It’s a whole other level. It’s stunningly perfumed and its gorgeous aromatics leap from the glass after really hardly any aeration. It’s juicy, floral and super expressive holding nothing back as it flaunts a melange of piercing red fruits, rose petals, exotic spices and just a hint of damp earth. Ethereal palate with a silky texture and an explosively long finale. Its elegance is really off the charts. Rousseau nailed this vintage and everything is in total harmony in its superb showing already, with a long glamorous life ahead. 💨🔥 — 4 years ago

Un peu comme avec mon Villegeorges, ce 2006 prend du poids en bouche, mes expériences avec ce millésisme était plus qu’ordinaire, je les trouvais mince, végétal, peu complexe et là mes 2 dernières bouteilles offrent une perspective plus intéressante. Le millésime a pris du coffre, un meilleur équilibre et de la complexité. Ce Pindefleur avait au nez des arômes de tabac, graphite, mine de crayon avec des notes de baies. Now with a few years of bottle age, the second release of this elusive Grand Cru, LC20, has really added even more detail and complexity. It needs air—2 hours open is an incredible difference from pop and pour. It’s ultra vinous and layered with a caramelized stone fruited profile with salted hazelnuts, curry leaf, gun smoke and lavender, with a vibrant, satiny mousse and a long saline-mineral inflicted finale. It’s more Selossien in style than the regular Les Beguines which from a personal preference, I love. Last sips were the best. — 5 months ago

The sleeper vintage, one at this time I bet to be even more showy than the illustrious 2000. It’s simply just ready to go after a short decant wafting from the glass with layers of cassis, black truffle, violets and licorice. This is a wine of texture and elegance, as Margaux should be—It’s liquid cashmere in the mouth with melting tannins and a black truffle and mineral inflicted finale that keeps on going. A profound young Preuses. Decanted 90 minutes in advance, and only to improve in every facet as each minute passes during dinner, 2020 Preuses is a tremendous success and already showing so much of its brilliance. It’s aromatics are layered with ultra defined orchard fruit, white flowers and citrus oils with an oceanic edge and the palate is concentrated, mineral and focused with considerable tension, drive and a racy mineral-saline finale. Constant notes, this one has a more muted nose at first then opens up to a mineral stony profile, light pastry aromas, honey, buttery slightly and very Chardonnay like. A very smooth, and creamy palate with great tension, vivid and intense, yet finesse, class and elegance are there, very small and tight bubbles, long delicious finish with that irresistible mixture of energy and class. 93-94

(this is only released after 10 years of bottle aging). A fully mature, exotic and somewhat honeyed nose displays full-on secondary aromas of spice and ripe white-fleshed fruit but no sous-bois. The delicious, rich and full-bodied flavors are a combination of succulence and power while displaying excellent length on the clean, dry and complex finale. This is exceptionally good and especially so for the vintage.

The 2015 Pouilly-Fuissé Grand Beauregard Hommage à Joseph Burrier is a special cuvée, a selection of the best dozen or so casks, aged two years in cask, one year in stainless steel and seven years in bottle. It has a lucid green-gold hue and a very Côte d'Or-like bouquet that you might liken to a Chassagne-Montrachet—very well defined with scents of lime, yellow flowers and later a touch of clear honey. The palate is lightly spiced on the entry with a dab of stem ginger, tangy with marmalade and sour lemon. Slightly petrolly towards the finish like a mature Riesling with noble reduction, this is a fascinating late-release that will give pleasure over many years.(NM) — 6 months ago

May 2016 disgorgement is just superb, explosively aromatic and infinitely layered with magical depth of Selossien flavors and such a singular texture that you just can’t forget. Color has slight greenish tones. Very nice nose, iodine, lemon zest, touch of almonds too and sea shells that are also on the palate. Very Chablis style with energy and an edgy acidity, mineral and saline with great length, delicious.
