Domaine Du Pere Pape

Clos des Papes

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend 2015

Initially sooty, tarry notes with dried herbs and garrigue generally. The mid weight palate has sweet ripe red and black fruits typical of the 2015 vintage with spice and a little pepper. A lovely wine and a faithful rendition of a quality CdP. — 2 days ago

Château de Beaucastel

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend 1995

[En Magnum] This is absolutely a beautiful, 30-year-old, Beaucastel Rouge in large format, mostly clean (just a trace of Brett), red fruits, still some structure, but not tannic, balanced, complex layers of flavors, long finish, really a top-notch Beaucastel with old school ABV (13.5%)!, lovely!!! — 16 days ago

Domaine du Pegau

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend 2013

2013 vintage. Nice fill. Excellent cork. No Durand needed. Decanted with some sed and tasted multiple times over the course of two hours. Origin story medium-heavy body now a light-medium body but with zero loss of color intensity. Primary flavors completely evacuated with secondary and tertiary flavors rushing in to fill the nature-abhorred vacuum. Initially, pretty bretty and likely too much for many...especially those not enamored with/used to such. Black olives, garrigue and cracked black pepper throughout mitigated the sweaty saddle and in serious leather (apologies to Frank Zappa) tendencies in the first hour. Overt, bretty notes dissipated after 45 minutes, This particular wine and vintage at the zenith/absolute top of its' particular bell curve and tastes like it can hover there another 5-6 years without drop-off or apology. 10.28.25. — a month ago

@Pinotman /// Andreas Oh I bet. I’m sure Zappa and the band live was quite the experience.

@Doug Powers 1990 was a banging vintage. Hoping the storage/provenance is solid. May the odds be ever in your favor.

Domaine du Pegau

Cuvée Réservé Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 1990

Lovely, sweet mature fruit (dried redfruits), there might be a touch of Brett (but less than the 1995 Beaucastel I posted last week), suave and complex on the palate, lingering finish, excellent Chateauneuf-du-Pape at its peak!! — 13 days ago

@Dave, I got lucky and caught this at its peak, more cellaring would have been a mistake!

Clos Saint Jean

Vieilles Vignes Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2019

Excellent CDP, bright fruit (raspberries/strawberries) on the nose, follows through on the palate, well balanced - only drawback is a slight wooden feel on the back end but easy to look past. Opened up wonderfully after a couple hours. JW big fan. Powerful enough to stand up to red meat despite being a Rhône — 22 days ago

Château de la Gardine

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2021

Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.

Red and black fruits on the nose with cedar, licorice, light vanilla, tobacco and chocolates.

Medium bodied with medium plus acidity.

Dry on the palate with raspberries, strawberries, spices and chocolates.

Tangy finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cranberries.

This is a very tasty GSM blend from Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Elegant and nicely balanced. Tangy and interesting.

Still young, and needs a few years in the bottle to mature properly. Will continue to age nicely in the next 10 years.

Already drinking nicely, even by itself as a sipping wine.

A blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre. Aged in large French oak barrels.

14% alcohol by volume.

91 points.

$70.
