Clos Saint Julien

Château Léoville Barton

Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 1996

Opened and double-decanted several hours prior to service; enjoyed over the course of three hours. The 1996 pours a deep garnet color with a near opaque core. On the nose, the wine is developing and loaded with currants, pencil lead, earth and soft baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and super grippy; slightly bitter and earthy. A lovely, classic expression of Bordeaux and drinking well in its prime. Drink now through 2046. — 14 days ago

@Severn Goodwin I catching up on some notes from a night with a line-up of bangers from Bordeaux. It was pretty awesome, ngl

Clos Fourtet

Saint-Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2010

Neus: Verleidelijke aroma’s van zwart fruit zoals cassis en zwarte kers, aangevuld met tonen van cederhout, sigarenkistje, en een vleugje chocolade.

@TheMillenRotterdam

Tight as a drum at open. Loosened to trampoline tension after 2 hours. Finally was loose after 4. Spicy and hefty. More inward. A sophisticated mix and quite good but as with most Leoville Las Cases it needs to sit longer for the next iteration. — 5 days ago

Ironically, I just enjoyed a bottle of this in London and fully agree with your assessment. I am looking forward adding to my cellar. I have ‘82, ‘89, ‘01, ‘05, and ‘16 and it’s obvious that ‘09 needs to be in the mix. Only a couple of years for this juice to step to the next level and maybe
even before ‘05 . Nice find

Château Beychevelle

Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2006

Still earthy on the nose and deep red-purple visually. After a short but vigorous decanting the tannic structure persisted to support dark fruit flavors on the palette. This wine still has many years of cellaring possible! — 6 days ago

Château Léoville Poyferré

Saint Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2019

2019 vintage. From Magnum. Medium body up front with that pirouetting away at the end and finishing with a lighter footprint. Drinking great now and just dropped into cruise control for the next 2.5 decades. Great effort. 12.11.24. — 18 days ago

Château Lilian Ladouys

Saint Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2018

Quick double decant. After 15 minutes, it’s already cookin’. Nose shows cassis, clay, a little underbrush, a slight menthol note, a little violet. Lots going on. Rich and a little macho in the mouth, like many ‘18s. There’s a fair whack of soft tannin, but it’s already drinking well. Intense and full. Not elegant, but gives you more than your money’s worth of flavor. Certainly will be better in 5 years or so. — 8 days ago

So, @Tom Casagrande, did you brown bag this AFTER double decanting it and drinking it at the bus stop? I’ve never figured out whether it’s socially acceptable to double decant, then head to the local bus stop with the bottle and drink it naked?? Inquiring minds trying to figure it out??!! 🤷🤷🤷
