Les Elotins Côte-Rôtie Syrah 2019

2019 vintage. The durty/lean side of Côte-Rôtie. Medium-bodied. Less fruit, more earth/dust. Tasted it 5 hours later after just sticking the cork back in at 3:15pm. Overt tannins had slightly backed off but extra/evolved fruit components hadn't rushed in to fill in the vacuum. Definite food wine. 10.8.25. — a month ago

Promesse Côte-Rôtie Syrah Blend 2015

Fresh for 10 years. Plenty of tannins. Hint black olives, dark fruit, blueberry, faint touch of pepper. Needs at least 60 min of air. — 7 months ago

Les Vieux Clos Savennières Chenin Blanc 2019

Presented to me blind at Tasting Group. The wine appears bright yellow with medium viscosity; no signs of sediment, gas or particles. On the nose, the wine is developing with ripe orchard fruit: stone fruits, lemons, white flowers, lanolin and minerals. On the palate the wine is off-dry with high acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and full of character. The alcohol is medium+. Initial conclusions: this could be Chenin Blanc, Riesling or Chardonnay from France, Germany or the United States. But I didn’t get any petrol so I eliminated Riesling and I don’t think you could get the balance of fruit and high acid from California Chardonnay (and the oak would probably be so pronounced). So I called Chenin Blanc from France, from the Loire, Vouvray Demi-Sec. Well…I should have known this could be Joly! Close…but some miles away from each other and I’d like to have the confidence to call producer in this case. Drink now through 2034. — 8 months ago

Château Tour Saint-Christophe

Saint-Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2021

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a couple of hours. The 2021 pours a deep purple color with an opaque core; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of ripe dark fruits: blackberries, dark cherry, plums, purple flowers, cocoa, organic earth and warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium. A crowd pleaser to drink now but with enough substance to enjoy through 2036. — 5 months ago

Great Champagne! Brioche and lemon with some raisin. Better on the warmer side. Love low dosage. With friends on a Saturday night — 9 months ago

En Équilibre Riesling

Very surprised by this Riesling. Apricot stone fruit without being in-your-face sweet. Has some nice minerality and a super pleasant long-winding finish. — a year ago

Clos de la Coulée de Serrant Savennières Chenin Blanc 2019

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of an hour. The 2019 pours a pale yellow color with medium+ viscosity. On the nose, the wine is developing with intense, ripe notes of Comice pears, baked green apple, mixed fruit cup, lemons, white tree flowers, lanolin, raw almond, tarragon, a touch of raw honey and minerals. On the palate, the wine is off-dry(?) with high acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and the texture is waxy. I questioned the off-dry call because I actually think it’s dry but the power and ripeness of the fruit, not to mention the 15% ABV(!!), give the impression of sweetness. An utterly balanced wine despite the big personality. A wine that gives main character energy. I wish I had a week or more to track the development because this is such a wee babe. Drink now to experience its youth and enjoy through 2049. — 3 months ago

I can completely relate to your tasting note about the mouthfeel being reminiscent of that of an off-dry wine. I had the same impression when tasting a 2013 a few years back. It was clearly a dry wine but with the touch of a sweet nectar.
