Bodegas Naia (Viña Sila)

Naiades Rueda Verdejo 2012

Nose has fresh lychee, ripe pear, dried lemon peel, distant white flowers, crushed hazelnut and wet, neutral wood.

Palate has orange zest, (light) honey, cooked pear and wet sandstone. Medium acidity, but a long finish.

Color is a beautiful, light gold, showing some age.
100% Verdejo, likely could see a 10th birthday with proper storage. Our last bottle.

We've been trying for a (mostly) dry January to break into the New Year, but it's a challenge. We really enjoy cooking, and wine with a meal is like salt or seasoning with your recipe, something to compliment. We decided to limit ourselves to just Sunday nights, and been successful for three weekends now. We have a wine dinner tomorrow and not cooking, so bending the self-imposed law for a Saturday night. Sous-vide, citrus-marinated chicken breasts paired to boiled then convection baked potatoes with reserved bacon fat (we keep a jar in the refrigerator for any occasion, also duck fat) because flavor is the name of the game!

1sd of a tempranillo couple.

crianza level.

red cherries, blueberry, mint, vanilla, clove and tobacco 👃

medium acidity.
medium tannins.
full body.

strong 👄 of ripe red 🍒, black. fruit, oak, 🌏 and tobbaco.

medium 🎯

a well made one with enough complexity for a breakthrough.

Numerus Clausus 2010

Great wine from Spain, dark fruit, blueberry, oak and vanilla on the nose. Palate is nicely layered with a nice long finish, perfumed dark fruit with oak, pipe tobacco, raisins and liquorice. Smooth mouthfeel with some tannins which will continue to soften. Hopefully the tannins will keep the raisins in check as that flavour may dominate as the wine ages further. From before the producer broke out the single vineyards, so simply labeled Corullon.
2000 was the second vintage I saw in the US. Came in funky 10 pack wooden boxes, as I recall.
Ruby w a more mature edge to the color. Amazing complexity; iron, mineral, bramble fruits, floral, hints of the ocean/iodine, cassis/minty. Palate is fully integrated and still with life.
