California Zinfandel

Perkins Harter

The Weight Old Vine Zinfandel 2015

😮 Wow. A serious, sexy beast. Blend of 80% old vine zin, 15% petit Syrah, 5% Syrah. Dry Creek appellation. The last vintage of this wine was 2016. This is going to age forever. Shelby and Peter relocated to the Eola-Amity Hills in the Willamette Valley and bought/planted Bracken vineyard. Planted just upslope from Sojourner, southwest facing, majority planted to Pinot with a small amount of Chardonnay. Shelby is a wizard. — 9 days ago

Sonoma County Zinfandel 2016

Drinkable Zin. Fruit is ripe, but remains fresh. It’s bramble and blood, just a touch of herbs. Finishes with mouthwatering acidity. Drink up! — 3 days ago

Sonoma County Zinfandel 2015

First Benovia for me. Riper style zin, with some black pepper on the mid-palate, and showing a little alcoholic warmth in the finish. The label says 15.2% ABV, but I suspect it might be a little higher. Good, but it’s not going to join my regular rotation. — 13 days ago

California White Zinfandel

Llke lots of previous comments it IS very sweet; but when I don’t want to drink but want to be sociable at the Bar, like the other night it’s a really good tasting drink - YES sweet; but a better tasting and better for you choice than a soft drink like Coke, Pepsi or Ginger Ale . — 5 days ago

Cedarman Howell Mountain Zinfandel 2016

Kirk F

Cedarman is blend of Rattlesnake and Dragon vineyards, a zin with a 20% helping of petite sirah. On pnp this exhibits an intoxicating nose and you can just sense the plush palate ahead. Dark cherry, brambly and full bodied. This is a great value and delicious. Oh, and it went great with 🍕! — 5 days ago

Nice combo!

Ridge Vineyards

East Bench Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel 2015

The East Bench Zinfandel is always a step up from the Three Valleys but without the age-ability or complexity of the Lytton Springs or Geyserville. This one is just at the front end of its drinking window and will likely show more in six months or so. — 7 days ago

Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel 2014

This is in such a killer place right now. In my mind, this bottle proves what Zinfandel is capable of. I detect a small touch of Brett but only just. Anyway, it works whether intended or not. This example is not your jammy-style of Zinfandel. — 12 days ago

Saldo California Zinfandel

One of my go to Zins. It's blended with a bit of Syrah to soften the tannins. Inky dark hues with notes of licorice, bright cherry and spice. I love the chocolate and peppery spice on the finish. Great value Zin. — 9 days ago

Caparone Winery

Paso Robles Zinfandel 2013

Tastes like a Zin from the early 70s. Very light color. Pungent prune-tinged berry fruit along with high-toned nose-tickling limestoney minerality. Lively and savory in the mouth. A true wine for dinner. 13.4%! — 7 days ago

Monte Rosso Vineyard Zinfandel 2015

Old bones make damned good soup. Was listening to the I’ll Drink to That podcast today on my commute home. Monte Rosso is in Joel Peterson’s list of top old vine vineyards so I had to pop one. — 11 days ago
