Curtefranca Bianco Chardonnay Blend 1997

Vanilla, cardamom, on the nose, slightly astringent, big and meaty. Has a little apple hi-chew if you get it around your tongue. — 23 days ago

Tre Comuni Barolo Nebbiolo 2012

Last bottle of this incredible private label value from Garagiste. Apparently made by Icardi (see cork), this is still not quite at its apogee, but it’s getting close. Classic Barolo nose features clean gravel, ripe macerated cherries, fragrant leather, rose petal, and spice. Mouthfilling flavors of dark cherry, old barrel, and the finish goes savory/minerally as it progresses. Tannin is still abundant and a little puckery at the close, but food will tamp that down. — 18 days ago

Tenuta Cajò Amarone Della Valpolicella Corvina Blend 2014

What an interesting and delicious surprise. Dominant notes of thyme, earth, leather followed by cracked, smoky pepper. Medium to heavy bodied. Definitely will buy this again — a day ago

Ca' Marcanda Magari Toscana Sangiovese Blend 2018

This inky ruby-colored wine offers up a nose as dark as its hue. Black cherry, tar and old leather mix in with tobacco and vanilla notes. There is an herbal element, too, which gives a sort of minty framework for the aromas. The palate is a juicy array of dark fruit with a touch of anise. The tannins are fine and smooth and the finish brings those dark berry flavors back for a lengthy review. — 16 days ago

Rose Extra Dry Prosecco 2019

This pink bubbly offers a ton of froth, which dissipates rather quickly. The nose shows strawberries, cherries and red apples. The palate is fruity and fun, and there is more than enough acidity to make this a refreshing sip or a nice wine to pair with a salad or seafood dish. It’s also great with aperitif munchies or a cheese and salami plate. — 22 days ago

Turranio Lison-Pramaggiore Sauvignon Blanc 2019

This pale yellow wine has a fragrant nose with some grassy, herbal notes, although not as grassy as the Tiare. There is a nice floral element and some tropical fruit, too. The palate shows a great Sauvignon Blanc flavor profile - citrus, minerals, herbs - and an acidity which is pleasant enough without getting too crazy. I sometimes find Sauvignon to be a little much on the palate for my taste, but that is not the case with the Turriano. It is a very nice sip and wonderful match for rice or pasta dishes, especially those with an herbal flair to them. BTW, this wine is Friuli DOC. — 5 days ago

Riserva Chianti Classico Sangiovese 2016

Pop and pour, but could have used a decant. Notes from 1 hr open. On the nose: dried roses, orange peel, dried herbs, raspberry, sandalwood/vanilla. On the palate: solid acidity, building to the mid, where it turns to some nice black pepper spice, wild strawberry, blood orange, and drying, but finely grained and well-integrated tannin on the finish. Nice (drank with pizza). — 19 days ago

Ca' Morei Valtellina Superiore Valgella Nebbiolo 2016

Wonderfully dark, but deliver the mouthfeel of nebbiolo north of piemonte: much lighter, with a bit of plum and some cherry. Even can identify apricot. An extremely interesting wine, with tannins, but very little acidity. — 10 days ago
