Black Opal

Firestone Walker Brewing Company

Lil Opal Farmhouse Ale 2016

Bottled 5/9/2016, Batch No. 002. No grapes in this brett’d saison, but the long aging in 70% French and 30% American oak results in big vinous character. — 6 days ago

Thienot

Black Ball Champagne Blanc de Blancs Chardonnay 2007

Nice Wednesday keto bottle, with some pesto topped barramundi
K&L notes,

This Champagne is composed of juice from all old vine Grand Cru grapes on property that used to belong to Krug right in the Cotes de Blanc… so you know they’re working with great land and great fruit. The nose is earthy, almost a little sandy toned, but there’s also good fresh fruit here with scents of citrus peel and Golden Delicious apples. The mouthfeel is soft and supple with a great apple/pear balance that becomes more intense in fruitiness and even borders on tropical flavors before coming to a gradual vanilla finish.

Stevens

Stevens Black Tongue Syrah 2007

Fruitier and warmer than the 2006 and 2007. Feels like it could age a little longer. With butternut squash becomes a little too sweet, like cough syrup. — a day ago

Rockford

Black Barossa Valley Shiraz

Sparkling Shiraz is a tradition on Christmas Day in Australia and is a great match with Roast Turkey and Baked Glazed Ham. A foamy mousse amongst the dark Ruby red colour. Aromas of blackberry plum and spices. A wonderful palate - sweet and rich with soft velvety tannins. Plenty of life and freshness with red and black fruits. Just plain delicious. My only bottle sadly and I hope I have the willpower to leave my 2004 until next Christmas. These Rockford Blacks are rare birds even in Australia. Disgorged 2002. Postscript: Only purchased in mid 2020 from a private cellar. — a month ago

I would think Seppelt Sparkling Shiraz would have the widest distribution. Owned by Treasury Wine Estates , the owners of Penfolds.

And to you Ron. Stay safe - you live in NY don’t you? Have been FaceTiming my son who lives over there. Cheers. Boxing Day test is on in Melbourne versus India. 25,000 instead of 100,000 at the MCG.

Black Cordon Vineyards

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

A very nice Napa Cabernet Sauvignon from the great 2014 vintage.

Showing black plums, sweet cherries, coffee, cedar, vanilla, leather, spices, earth, chocolates and tobacco.

Dry and very fruity on the palate with nice complexity and mouthfeel.

Good by itself or with food and a great sipping wine.

This 6 year old is drinking very nicely now. Tasty and delicious.

A blend of mainly Cabernet Sauvignon with some Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot.

14.8% alcohol by volume.

92 points.

Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc

White and pale in colour, flavourful in smell with no oak, dry and highly acidic. Hints of pineapple and herbs. Tastes of preserved lemon and very bold. Paired with pico de gaillo and chips, street style corn, and fish tacos. — 6 days ago
