This IS Santa Barbara County Pinot! First taste was a big burst of fruit. Not to sweet, not supple and unsophisticated, not a jammy Zin bomb, mind you. Instead, more like a zing of bright, pure, winey fruit. Remarkable and memorable. We had the 2022 vintage in a magnum bottle so perhaps that helped preserve its freshness and purity. We enjoyed this Big Mama at the Palm Restaurant in downtown LA, celebrating my daughter Rachel’s graduation from UCLA Law School. Congratulations, Rachel! — 11 hours ago

So after the 2018 of a couple of weeks ago which needs a couple of years to come together, this is just entering it's drinking window. Still a big, structured young-ish wine but very drinkable with a decant. This oozes dark fruit, graphite, earth and chocolate. Very pretty aromatics and matching fruit on the palate. I found 2018 much more singular/monolithic. This has much more going on. Grippy and dry but I sense a bit of sweetness from aging already. I like the sweet components more than the drying tannins so I will bury my other bottles of both vintages for a couple of years.

Edit: on day two this evolved into a compact spice bomb, very impressive 97-99 in a few years. — 4 months ago

2018 Far Niente Cabernet. Love this vineyard and their signature cab is outstanding! Very nice bouquet, rich with dark fruits, blackberry, plum and light earth notes. Thick long lasting legs. Very smooth on the palette. Rich ripe fruit at the start with blackberry. Finish is smooth with light berry notes. Very low tannins. Love it! Paired well with a big Italian meal with lasagna and sausage. — a month ago
