Domaine Tempier

Cabassaou Bandol Mourvèdre Blend 2008

Dark Ruby red almost Black in colour. Dense on nose after decanting - quite closed restrained and latent needing time and swirling to open up. After 2 hours a nice plummy earthy perfume coming through. On the palate plummy tarry notes with cherry. Dusty and discreet Barb thought. Ultra savoury with very fine grained tannins. A great match with Lamb Chops. I’m not familiar with all of the individual Cuvées of Domaine Tempier but I believe Cabassaou is regarded as top of the tree - the others being La Miguoa and La Tourtine. Medium weight with medium plus intensity. Probably the best straight Mourvèdre I’ve ever had. Footnote: It appears this is a blend of at least 90% Mourvèdre with some Syrah and a little Cinsault. — 2 days ago

Château la Tour de l'Évêque

Côtes de Provence Cabernet Sauvignon Syrah 2016

Dark ruby with jewel-like highlights. Dark fruit, cassis, and potent leather on the inviting nose and medium palate. Medium tannins. Medium plus acidity (very assertive for a red). A fine example of the Provençal rouge. Made for food, it will pair wonderfully anywhere you’d take Cabernet, Syrah, or even Pinot Noir. Drink now through 2027. — 21 days ago

Mas de Gourgonnier

Organic Les Baux-de-Provence Grenache Blend 2018

If you can get an organically grown wine from France to the US that is fresh and lively on the palate with no trace of funk, then kudos to you Madame Cartier and sons. This baby is all fruit: blueberry, black cherry, currants. Well worth a detour to southwestern France for this well-balanced blend of Grenache, Syrah and Cabernet. — 9 days ago

Château de Roquefort

Les Genêts Côtes de Provence 2019

Typically shy Vermentino on the nose with Mediterranean herbs but everything but on the palate. Taut & clean with great tension between the shy fruit & herbs and the beautiful mineral salinity. Great caracter and sense of place and at 12% alc this is such sheer drinking pleasure. A brilliant white! — 9 days ago

Villars-sur-Var White Rhone Blend 2013

Outstanding. An example of how you can’t judge a wine by its grape. Elegant and Subtle, complex, well balanced, long finish with a lively salinity — 8 days ago

Cibonne

Côtes de Provence Tibouren Rosé

The color is striking. More orange than rose. The aroma is like salted orange butter. On the palate it’s round and balanced. The usual notes of strawberry and honeydew are there but there’s also prosciutto wrapped cantaloupe, and maybe grapefruit. Finishes with some nice minerality. I was holding onto this in my fridge like it was a “big deal” but I shouldn’t have. It’s very drinkable. — 20 days ago

Villars-sur-Var Syrah 2017

Savory, smoky & powerful. Structured, but plenty approachable. Balanced between dark fruit & fresh acid. Aromatics are a bit rustic, but the palate is wonderfully complex. Very nice. — 18 days ago
