Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2015
Fantastic left bank Bordeaux. Dark, super dry fruit. Minerally with this so district graphite/lead pencil under notes. Just returned from South Africa where we were blown away with the quality wines they are producing from their stunning vineyards. We were able to stuff 36 bottles on our suitcases. Yes Shiraz and Pinotage and Chenin blanc are their signature wines but places like Vergelegen, Villafonte and BoschenDal are making fantastic Bordeaux blends. Not a huge amount on the nose. But lovely crisp, herby, mineral palate. Very long finish. Possibly still on the young side but drinking well — 3 years ago

Reserve Shiraz 2014
A really rounded, well made Shiraz in (what I think) is a northern Rhône style. Earthy aroma with plenty of dark fruit. It’s dry, savoury and acidic in the mouth, with just the right amount of tannin. Certainly not brawny - if anything a little lean. The finish is long, with plenty of mocha notes. — 5 years ago

92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc. “V” is the premium Cuvée from the winery. Dusty plum and black currant notes with a hint of menthol. A touch of leather on the nose and a gamey note. Barb thought it smelt like a woolly jumper. I like it when people who don’t write tasting notes but have a good sense of smell come up with a new aromatic descriptor. Bought this at the winery in 2012 in Stellenbosch when we had a structured tasting. A great district for Cabernet where we had excellent examples from Ernie Els and Rustenberg amongst others - all recorded here on Delectable. Owned at the time by mining giant, Anglo-American. Possibly still is - I didn’t check. We see very little South African wine in Australia. One of the 1001 Wines. — 9 months ago
