Dog Point Vineyard

Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2022

Delectable Wine

The 2022 Dog Point is elegant, with appealing ripe nectarine fruit and bright acidity. This is an attractive, light bodied Sauvignon Blanc with appealing succulence through the mid- palate, potentially due to lower yields. A triumph in a difficult year, showing the results of rigorous selection. $25.00 (Rebecca Gibb MW, Vinous, May 2023) — a month ago

Château Cos d'Estournel

Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2016

2016 vintage. Need to order some more of this-pronto. Obviously too young but firing on nearly all cylinders at this point. The go-to BDX for those that want to drop coin on BDX but aren't familiar with BDX. For those of us that are familiar with the area/wines, this producer and vintage are delivering overtime. Voluptuous and sexy mixed with just enough down to earth(iness). Drinking phenomenally now. Too youthful to accurately speculate on the end game/potential of this vintage now. Much of the baby fat is gone yet there are a few strands left. Going back to the 1988 vintage, this is in my top three Cos offerings- like now, man... 4.29.23 — a month ago

Dog Point Vineyard

Marlborough Chardonnay 2018

First bottle of three that I bought on release - the 2018 Chardonnay from Dog Point in Marlborough. I’ve had this wine once before, a couple of years ago - the 2011 - which was superb.

This 2018 has a young appearance, greenish yellow in hue, Chablis-like.

Highly reductive on the first night with a strong herbal edge; much more open and harmonious on the second. Flint, wet shale, lemon, orange peel.

The palate is lean, energetic and super high in acidity, with prevailing flavours of lemon and lime, Braeburn apple and only the faintest hint of any lactic notes. It finishes quite long, but it’s bracing, taut and youthful at present. I expect this to age quite well and will pull my next bottle in three years (note to self!).

Sheldrake Point

Finger Lakes Dry Rosé Blend 2021

100% Cabernet Franc Rose’. Beautiful light salmon color. Pronounced mineral on the nose and pallet with hints of watermelon and a bit of dark cherry, strawberry and citrus. A little bit of pepper spice. Medium tangy acidity and a crunchy texture. A small amount of heft but still light bodied. Very “Loire-like.” — 2 months ago

Edna Valley Pinot Noir 2020

Everything you want in a much more expensive Pinot for about $20. This easily tastes like many of the $30-$40 Pinots out there in the market today. Strawberry, rhubarb, cherry, just a touch of oak in the lifted Pinot aromas and flavors. — 2 months ago
