With time/air, both the nose and palate grow exponentially. Delightful and viscous.

Ulysse Collin

Les Maillons Extra Brut Blanc de Noirs Champagne Pinot Noir 2016

Outstanding! A befitting wine to break a somewhat self-imposed 3 months dry spell.
Open for business from day one, yet it constantly evolved over the next three days. Red cherries, apples, and brioche dominated the bouquet at the start, which eventually progressed to one lead by smoke and salinity. The palate explodes with a "sweet" core of red cherries and raspberries, finishing with heaps of spice (cinammon in particular) and dried flowers, all wrapped up in an incredibly salty package. Like the nose, day two and three saw salinity take centre stage, along with some apparent wood characters and bitter citrus in the finish. Olivier's wines have always brought a multi-dimensional complexity that's undeniable to any wine lover, but it's that balance of power-without-weight that makes him such a great winemaker. Safe to say, Ulysse Collin is fast becoming one of my favourite champagne estates.

@Ira Schwartz Agreed. Olivier's wines are really special and getting better with each new release. Haven't seen his wines in a while (2-3 years) and was seriously blown away by this... Got the Les Enfers to try next and am gonna try nail some of the Roises somehow... in times like this 😂

Label Artist Yellena James Rosé 2017

Very, very 🍓 today, our last bottle of the 2017. Delicious.

An early Father's Day with my parents, so we don't have to compete with my Sister & Nephew's in 24 hours, plus we'll have the better wine. 🤞

Mille e Una Notte Contessa Entellina Nero d'Avola 2016

Delectable Wine
9.3

A captivating display of blackberry, plum, grilled herbs, cedar dust and balsamic spice wafts up from the 2016 Mille e una Notte. It’s silky in texture and polished in feel, offering ripe black fruits lifted by cooling minerality. This remains tightly wound up in its youthful state, as a fine coating of sweet tannin settles in to create a structured finale, with pretty purple-tinged florals and hints of licorice lingering long. The 2016 may be one of the most refined expressions of Mille e Una Notte that I’ve ever tasted, but it will need some time to show its best. This is composed primarily of Nero D'Avola, Petit Verdot and Syrah, which is expertly refined in new barriques for 14 months. (Eric Guido, Vinous, June 2021)

Piggy Pop Pet Nat Nero d'Avola 2019

Dark pink color - almost red. Very light effervescence. Dry, and balanced. Not a ton of fruit flavor. Would be good to take to a group thing, but not a good everyday drinking wine — 6 days ago
