This is big, broad and bold. Hundred percent cab aged in seventy-five percent new French Oak. Limited production to just over two hundred cases.
Visibly the wine is a deep ruby color with a tight rim.
The nose is intense with dark fruit, cassis, coffee, dark chocolate, but also earthy humid forest aromas.
The mouthfeel is luxurious and enveloping with the perfectly ripe dark fruit, just a touch of dried spices, vanilla, oak, and a long savory earthy finish. The wine is dry, full bodied, ultra smooth with round but persistent tannings with medium plus alcohol and medium acidity.
It’s extremely surprising to me how approachable the wine is at release. Although, I may know the reason: the cave wine making and cellaring facilities at Porter; I can certainly feel the humidity of the caves in the wine. Praying I can keep my hands off my other couple of bottles for the next 5-10 years, just to see how much better the wine will be then. — 3 days ago
It's time for my #FridayCabernetfix. Here is a delicious one.
Inky in color with a short reddish rim.
Fruity nose of blackberries, black currants, plums, sweet cherries, chocolates, cedar, light caramel, vanilla, licorice, spices, tobacco light cola and black pepper.
Full bodied and smooth with medium acidity and long legs.
Dry and fruity on the palate with blackberries, black cherries, plums, licorice, vanilla, cola, cedar, black coffee, chocolates, tobacco, earth, beef jerky and peppercorn.
Nice finish with fine grained tannins and red cherries.
This young Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley is already drinking very nicely. Showing nice complexity with a nice, soft mouthfeel.
Very true to the Terroir, without too much alcohol, which I liked.
Well balance and interesting. Fruit forward, rich and extracted.
Will age nicely in the next 5 to 7 years. Showing nice potential to become a 94+ point wine.
Good right out of the bottle, and better after an hour in a decanter.
Good by itself as a sipping wine, or with food. Will pair nicely with BBQ Meats. I paired it with Camembert cheese and prosciutto.
100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from Oakville and Rutherford, were aged in French (mostly) and American oak barrels for 18 months.
14.2% alcohol by volume.

Had a lovely visit here in early 2020 with Haley. I fee like these wines don’t get as much recognition as they should, especially based on the quality of the fruit and the wine.
I opened this and gave it a quick pour…first thought was it was just kind of there. Wasn’t expressive, but wasn’t flawed. About 15-30mins later, it finally blossomed. For me, I always get a distinct note out of Wight vineyard…normally a high toned cherry/sweetened raspberries and sometimes a kiss of eucalyptus. I got all of that here on both the nose and palate, just slightly toned down. At 15.3ABV for 2005, this was well balanced and integrated. After corking the remaining third and having for dinner, it sported a lot of cherry chewing tobacco with herbal crusted ripe black cherries. This is bridging the gap between new world and old at this point. Best to consume in the next couple years if you want that balanced profile. — 11 days ago
2012!! 🕰 A marvelous year; the year @deked1 and I reconnected. Two years later we exchanged vows and began our adventure in life together. Tonight, we’re celebrating our seventh wedding anniversary. 💕💕 The honeymoon vibes are still going strong! 🙌
We’re excited about this 2012 Cade that was bottled on June 13th, 2014, just over a month before our wedding. It’s comprised of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Merlot. It comes from Howell Mountain AVA in Napa Valley, California. ⛰ 🇺🇸
Howell Mountain AVA is known for producing fuller-bodied and well-structured wines with vines planted at an elevation ranging from 1600 to 2200 ft above sea level and good sun exposure. ☀️ This wine is no exception with its firm tannins, medium acidity, and high alcohol (15.2%); also, its opulent, ripe black fruits such as juicy blackberry bramble, black cherry, crème de cassis, also black licorice, pepper, nutmeg, vanilla, dark chocolate, espresso, clove, and forest floor. It has a long, elegant finish. 👌👌👌
It also underwent 20 months of barrel aging in 100% French Oak 80% of which was new, which explains the noteworthy secondary aromas and flavors that add to the complexity of this wine.👏👏👏👏
Here’s to cherishing the moment with the people you love. Cheers! — 7 days ago
Maybe I’m adversely influenced by the name, but sage notes are everywhere, in a good way. Throwing lots of sediment in the glass, but overall, this is still in its prime - fruit-forward with moderate tannins. Mature black fruits combine with soft acidity. The only fault line is that this comes across with a little too much wood treatment. Consume these now. — 7 days ago
PnP’d. Should have given an hour decant. Medium red color. Is a cross between Pinot, Cab, and a Spanish red. Mix the Aubert Pinot I had the other night and Pontet Canet and you get close. Bright red fruit with plenty of oak. Perfect drinking age!! What a great gift and surprise!! Thanks Malcolm! — 6 days ago
2018 Materium comes from the Weitz Vineyard in Oakville and is all Cabernet Sauvignon brought up in mostly new barrels. It's a very different wine than the Amoenus release and has more elegant, seamless aromas and flavors of crème de cassis, black raspberries, tobacco leaf, flowery incense, and sandalwood. Château Margaux-like in its elegance and complexity, this brilliant wine has loads of sweet fruit, flawless integration of its tannins and acidity, flawless balance, and just a heavenly overall profile that I wish every reader could taste. This extraordinary effort can be drunk today or cellared for 30 years or more. — 5 days ago
1 hour decant (decent chunky cloudy sediment). An astonishing dark ruby red color still, with just a little bricking. On the nose: that sweet aged cab perfume, old leather, menthol, eucalyptus, touch of plum, little funky earth. Taste: smooth, soft, rich, precise and structured wine with dark fruit, smoke, chocolate espresso, pencil lead, cassis, spice, and plummy cedar long finish. What a delicious representation of aged Cali cab!!!!! YUM. — 6 days ago
