Ghemme ai Livelli Nebbiolo 2018

Delectable Wine

The 2018 Ghemme Ai Livelli is a dense, potent wine. Black cherry, spice, leather, menthol, game and incense add to an impression of brooding intensity. This rustic, burly Ghemme offers tons of punch and character, but it is marked by slightly elevated alcohol, searing tannins and oxidative overtones. In spite of that, it’s still a very good wine, which just shows the potential here. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, February 2024)

Le Piane

Mimmo Vino Rosso Nebbiolo Blend 2022

Delectable Wine

Le Piane’s 2022 Nebbiolo is a rich, heady wine, but it has found a way to maintain freshness and verve. It’s a big wine for sure, yet all the elements are so well balanced. Sweet red/purplish fruit, orange peel, mint and crushed flowers linger on the deep, satisfying finish. $25.00 (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, February 2024) — 11 days ago

Boca Nebbiolo Blend 2010

Great example of what a Spanna from Alto Piemonte can be. Volcanic soil, traditional process and a great family. Red berries orange peel mint plenty of acid and low alcohol lightens the package. The bottle went empty quickly. — 16 days ago

Antichi Vigneti di Cantalupo

Ghemme Collis Bredemae 2016

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a couple of hours. No formal notes. As others have stated in previous TN’s, this is simply too young. The fruit is gorgeous and the winemaking is very good however, I find it to be too primary for my liking. Even after a few days, it was unwilling to develop. It’s balanced with sufficient structure to age well…and I suspect quite gracefully. I swooped up a couple of bottles and I’ll plan to forget about my remaining bottle for at least a decade. Better after 2026 and probably best after 2031. — 3 months ago
