No formal notes. Awesome. Juicy. Lime. So zesty. Very sappy.

Day 2 notes. Palate is so deep and ripe but nimble as all can be. Luscious and dense. Amazing purity and such a classic Kabinett. Nose is a bit mute today but palate is slamming.

Haven’t had in 2 years and wow it’s in the zone. Soaring nose of lemon peel, candied lemons, minerals, herbs and grapefruit. Stunning depth and purity to the aromas. Super juicy and candied lemon/lime palate and wonderful confectionery vibe as well. Superb purity and cleanliness. Awesome depth and great acids. Great inner mouth aromas and awesome mineral concentration. Super clean and structured. Drinking so well now but has a long life ahead of it. Lovely nectarine and juicy pink grapefruit on the finish. Wonderful and mouthwatering. Coming alive with air. So many confectionary aromas. Just stunning. — a day ago

RIESLING PERLMUTT 2018

-Rugged Riesling-

DAY 1
Served with the Vinloq System
👀Dark yellow golden honey. Unfiltered
👃Sour citrus, wax, savory herbs with tea & mint
👅Honeyed, candied stone fruit. Ripe apples. Very herbal with pronounced acidity. Salty. The finish is dry, long, & delicious
So interesting. So expressive. Superb clarity. Singular flavor profile likely due to botrytis and long elevage. Just…wow

The remaining wine was Slow Decanted with Vinloq & refrigeration

Sampled this on 2 more occasions

DAY 15
👃Bold, distinctive & precise
👅Probably would not guess riesling in a blind tasting. Tea, cognac & sherry all make appearances. Bruised/ripe apple is only perceived sweetness
Virtually unchanged in 15 days. Feels very sturdy. Probably would be an interesting wine to cellar.

Jakob Tennstedt is a new winemaker in the Mosel. He biodynamically farms 50-100 year old vines he restored on steep blue slate terraces. This wine was so laborius to make that he will not do it again. I am glad I was able to try it this time and it gives me motivation to try his other wines🥂

Ripe and deep nose. Huge stone fruits, peach, apricot, plum, tangerine and more. Some citrus undertones as well. Gorgeous minerality and unreal roundness to the nose. This is 13% which contributes to the depth. The 12% Steffensberg was more piquant and less deep. Amazing what an incremental tick up in alcohol does. Huge spice and vulcanized rubber. Light saffron as well. Palate is ripe and juicy and round with great freshness and depth. Really deep. So many piquant stone fruits. This needs air to open up as it’s holding back. What a long, luscious finish. Sapid. Pure. So complex and mineral. Juicy. So many stone fruits like apricot, peach and tangerine. I’ll be back as it opens. As this airs the palate depth is profound. The complexity ratchets up a notch as does the minerality. — 6 days ago

Brauneberger Juffer 'HL' Riesling 2014

Nose is elegant. Has some age. Really deep. Maybe grapefruit rind. That old Riesling complexity. Wow. Gorgeous.

Palate is fresh. Deep. Very good. A hint of yellow grapefruit but more just this sense of amazing depth. Excellent acidity. So good.

Ürziger Würzgarten Auslese Riesling 1990

Vintage 1990 | Fuder 10/90. Small differences depending on the Fuder in which the wine was made. Gold in colour. Mango, banana and minerality in smell, much tension in taste, little bitterness in aftertaste. — a day ago

Scharzhofberger Kabinett Riesling 2017

Enjoyable, but definitely not the finest example of Egon’s Kabi for me. It’s the petrol character that irritated me - although not potent, it should never be present for a Riesling this young especially from Egon. I put it down to storage and transport once more. That aside, the 19’ Kabi was a crowd-pleaser. The fruit profile leaned more towards pears and peaches instead of citruses, and it had a little more sweetness and presence than usual, so the 17’ iteration was definitely a more food Kabi than aperitif Kabi. Fruity, racy, and especially saline on day two, it’s a banger of a wine with Cantonese food. — 13 days ago

Nose is caramel, slate, peaches, nectarine, tangerine, and so much more. Subtle and wide open. Awesome viscous texture and lovey intensity. Juicy and focused with great precision and very well knit. Very complex with just a terrific mouthfeel. Long finish. Drinking so well now. — 4 days ago

Citrus explosion on the nose. Such clarity and depth. The vividness of the citrus is stunning. Blood orange, grapefruit, tangelo, pink grapefruit and more. Awesome mineral depth and so much slate. Palate is bone dry and skeletal with forceful minerality and stunning purity. Delicate and playful. So pure and wispy. Lovely hit of opulence in the mid palate and perfect acid balance. Luscious on the finish and really the acid is not high, nor low, just perfect. Very complex and elegant. The minerality is at once forceful but also playful. There is citrus on the palate and such filigree. Steffensberg is always one of the most mineral wines ever. — 6 days ago

Wow. Nose is the most vivid peach ever. Creamy as well. Stunning mineral depth. Sea air. Ocean Breeze. Slate galore. Insane mineral depth. The nose is so deep. My goodness. Stunning layering. Crunchy and concentrated. Wow. This is genius. So elegant, crunchy, concentrated and pure. Essence of Kabinett. Long as the day is in late June. Just beautiful. Structured and deep. Sappy and pure. Amazing flavorful. Stone fruits. What a long wine. Almost perfect. The balance here is amazing. Kab Trocken so hard to pull off and Martin does it as good as anybody. Yup this is a 9.6. Wow!

As this airs the nose gets more mineral and the peach blends much more with the slatey minerals. Herbs as well. This is mindblowing Kabinett. This is so juicy and joyous. This will go down almost too easy.
