Ca' del Bosco

Cuvée Prestige Franciacorta Chardonnay Blend

Ca’del Bosco, Franciacorta, Cuvée Prestige, NV, Extra Brut, ABV 12.5%. 🇮🇹

Here is a blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Bianco, Pinot Nero varieties, with a dosage at disgorgement introducing only 1 gram of sugar per liter, making this an Extra Brut sparkling wine (6 g/l max), coming from Franciacorta DOCG in the Lombardy region of Italy. Franciacorta sparklers are known for being produced with a second fermentation in the bottle and prolonged aging on the “lees” á la Méthode Champenoise. 🍾🥂

This is a beautiful representation. It’s pale gold, bone-dry, and offers toasty, bready notes next to tart, youthful peach, pear, and apple, lemon pith, blanched almonds, desiccated white flower, and wet slate. 💕

This wine is bright, elegant, and focused. It could cut through butter and is a delicious pairing with creamy, soft cheeses.👌👌👌

Cheers!

Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 2017

Unlike prior iterations of this “secret” private label for Garagiste, the cork had no identifying marks denoting the estate from which it came. (I think the 16 sported a Casa Emma cork, if memory serves.) But regardless who made this, it’s really good. Dark ruby color. Great nose of violets, deeply intense dark cherry, some crushed gravel, and a slight balsamic note. Intense in the mouth, it’s lots of fruit and florals at first, but then gives way to loads of cooling crushed stone minerality, and ends quite savory. Good acids, and lots of soft tannin. Will improve for at least a couple more years, maybe more. — 13 days ago

Riserva Chianti Classico Sangiovese 2016

Decanted, notes from 2 hrs open. Paired with simple pasta with red sauce. Lovely, and not much to add to my last note. Maybe a touch too much bitterness on the palate, but that's a quibble. Yum. — 13 days ago

Dark ripe cherries, stewed plums, chocolate and anise. Tannins are smooth but this will age for another few years. — 7 days ago

Il Bosco Superiore Barbera d'Alba 2015

Pretty Nebbiolo colour of course - maybe a little darker than normal? Maybe the room is too dim! Lots going on for me on the nose. Floral, perfumy stuff, a bit of cedar, got orange peel for a sec but also softer stuff (is candle wax too creative?) I taste cherry and maybe almond liqueur…. Smooth finish with nice medium tannins - great structure. To me this is a complex and rewarding wine. — a month ago
