La Madinière Côte-Rôtie Syrah 2017

9.1

Very young. Needs air. Going to save the other 2 bottles for a few years down the road. I seem to prefer my Cote Roties with some bottle age to them. — 4 days ago

Not as good as the 2018 which is weird as 19 is usually better than 18 in Cote Rotie. Let’s see what air does. Noseis funky, floral, spicey and a bit horsey. Hopefully it blows off. Very nice framing minerality but the horse is here and will gallop off into the distance soon. Paste is ripe and juicy with terrific power, depth and concentration. Big, ripe and sweet tannins. Super pure and super young. Engaging freshness and energy but the tannins are a bit aggressive and less focused than I’d like. 9.3 for now. Let’s see. It is opening up to be very elegant but also there is a sur maturite factor that’s not that great and the fruits is losing focus. HMMMMMMM??? — a month ago

La Turque Côte-Rôtie Syrah 1998

Plummy, smoky, silky, some leathery smells too. High acidity. Still going very strong and I bet can last another decade — 15 days ago

Côte-Rôtie Syrah Blend 2013

Not only one of the most beautiful labels, but this wine is exactly what I was hoping it would be. Blood sausage, smoked meats, violets, balanced, and just keeps getting better the longer it’s in the decanter. It’s the 18 vintage. I know it’s only get better with time. — 14 days ago

Côte-Rôtie Syrah 2019

Big olive on nose. Brown sugar, iron, and bloody steaks in mouf. Super good. 19 vintage. Decant for an hour opens this up big time. — 2 days ago

Besset Côte-Rôtie Syrah 2017

2015: Rich and well-made Syrah, but still drinking young and lacking the complex funkiness of a distinctive Cote-Rotie. Was expecting more for the money, but may well gain complexity in a few years. $72 at Plucky. — 19 days ago

Côte-Rôtie Syrah 2015

On open nose is closed. Maybe some lilacs. As this opens some light integrated Brett.

Palate is lightly fruited. As this opens a bit better. Precise cherry fruit. A hint of bitterness. Elegant. Some crushed lilacs. Which are quite cool. As this opens this sweet silky thing.
