Expressive & aromatic with dusted light cherry, wilted flowers, some undergrowth. Very enticing & fresh & pure.
On the palate this is light yet with bite. A very proper tannic grip yet polished & finely grained. Juicy acidity, surprising freshness for 6y, great purity & a v. long finish. This is really nice!! — 3 years ago
Despite 6y of age this retains a lot of freshness & sappiness. Ripe lemons, tangerine peel, slightly exotic yet still fresh.
On the palate this marries a highly intense exotic fruit profile with steely, lemony acidity. No creaminess here, and the flavor & acidic intensity borders almost on a tannic mouthfeel.
Great intensity, but also purity & length. — 3 years ago
Batch 40. A little thinner than earlier batches. Delightfully complex nose -- even has some cocoa notes. Strong initial burn that fades into a long finish.
Minor flaws: a sulfur note, maybe from the cognac barrel. Also the sharp heat is a bit more than expected for the 6y+ blend. — 6 years ago
New label, even better inside. This guy just gets better & better.
At 6y this is showing beautifully!
Open, pure, zippy fresh, savoury - with dark sour cherries, dark plums, graphite, wet earth, cloves and raw meat. Evolves with time adding wilted flowers and some fresh thyme/orange zest spicy freshness. Plus a hint iodine. Insane complexity.
On the palate this stays bright, fresh, so juicy. Firm yet polished & slightly mellowed tannins, bright dark berry acidity with a dash of beetroot earthiness, rocky, pebbly minerality. This has beautiful depth & precision and great personality.
Not the most elegant out there but, damn, so interesting & drinkable.
Brilliant value, too!

4H Decant, 1500ml.
24H Update:
Nose has ripe plum, cherries in syrup, violets, dry sandy earth, moist leather and minor stem notes. Palate has ripe blackberry, ripe plum, black cherry, light acidity and fine tannins. This wine is in a great zone for enjoyment (from proper storage) at 18Y past vintage and should hold well for another 3-6Y. Pure enjoyment to drink this wine at this stage. — 3 years ago
From the Encégnières Climat, on the border to Puligny and directly below Batard-Montrachet.
Taut, young & fresh despite the 6y. Opens with a bit of matchstick reduction and some bready-nutty notes, followed by ripe lemons. On the palate this shows great concentration with a core of spicy minerality and fresh, juicy acidity around which layers of ripe lemons are wound tightly. Ends with a note of lemon tart with salty caramel.
A grand wine with amazing purity and length. — 5 years ago
With 6y of age this has nicely mellow and shows savoury, moist undergrowth, fresh mushrooms, shy dark fruit,
On the palate this is really polished & peaking. Light bodied, the tannins polished, juicy, perfectly integrated. Nice purity and precision. Great flow & good length. Wild strawberries, wet moss, a hint of cream. So food friendly, works amazingly week with Cantonese food.
Really good stuff! — 2 years ago
Last bottle, notes pending...
See prior notes, we're pretty close, could go another 4-6Y IMO.
72H Update:
Nose has dried raspberries, dried lavender, bag of fresh black cherries, blackberry jam, crushed fresh rosemary and shaved dark chocolate. Palate has plum jam, ripe blackberries, cocoa powder, dried leather, rock dust and fine tannins. A great finale to this vintage from Randall Grahm, our last bottle. — 3 years ago
Nose has recently crushed granite, grilled/warmed black cherry, dried citrus, (minor) moist cedar sawdust, licorice, red Twizzlers© candy and white pepper.
Palate has ripe cherry, dried cherry, fresh orange zest, dark chocolate shavings, dried blueberries, all very round and complete on the palate. Medium-short finish. Definite improvement with additional age!
About two years since our last bottle, doing quite well this evening, can hold another 4-6Y (2024-26) in proper storage. — 4 years ago
