To me a perfect meeting point of ripeness, acidic tension, concentration, and minerality. The depth of fruit shows the vineyards exposition while well-made SS treatment keeps purity and freshness across all fronts. Ripe grapefruit, underripe stone fruit, tropical notes without having an exuberant side to it.
Herbal component is subdued yet integrated, making more of the case for sweet herbs than raw pyrazine. Texturally there’s almost an allusion of oak in its mouthfeel. This is fantastic for the price, great quality. — 5 days ago
One of my favorite rosé wines! So textural and enveloping, mineral and savory before fruit. Lemon balm, peach skin, apricot pit, melon rind, sea salt, flower petals, succulents and scrubby Provençal herbs. A slight leesy component adds richness. There’s always something unique in this wine’s tannin profile, it has some grit, almost powdery tannin from front to back, I love the texture. — 20 days ago
Chambord poured over crushed strawberries, hot stones, and garrigue. Under pinnings of animal and leather. Very tight, and wound, but that all works out with its fresh character and strong mineral backbone. Raw and angry, just perfect for young Gigondas — 10 days ago
Everything a cult Cabernet should be. Very high quality yet integrated new oak, ultra-ripe and silky tannin, mouth-coating and voluptuous fruit, layered, and very lengthy. Seamless from attack to finish. The richness evident on front, mid, and back palate. showing some muscles under its fine velvet profile, very gorgeous. Aromatically not the most compelling with its high alcohol and elevated VA, all palate here though. However beneath the noise is some beautiful oak, exotic spices, and floral notes, still very complex just lacking a touch of detail. ‘Murica — 15 days ago
Lovely, soil driven with plenty of grace and charm. A more fine and focused example from Janasse, who’s wines I usually find on the more contemporary side of things. Red fruited with lovely notes of warm stones, animal, garrigue and flowers. Approachable and full of joy like many ‘14s, very soft tannin — 14 days ago
One of my favorite producers in CA. Unapologetic and consistently true to form. Crushed cherry, wild berries, apricot, red apple skin, sweet lavender pastille, smoked meat, redwood forest, coffee bean, warm and turned earth. Vin de soif, fresh, infused, love the tannin profile and vivacious energy this has. — 18 days ago
