Shhhhhh! The truth is I have wanted to try this wine for awhile if for no other reason than the label. An empty Velvet Devil bottle sat on top of a cabinet for 2 years in my daughters college apartment. The “wall of shame” is what I like to affectionately call empty alcohol bottles all lined up. Memories made with friends. Admittedly I had stereotyped this wine as convenience store wine without even trying it. Then I tried another Charles Smith wine and really liked it. After that I watched Tasting Notes. Another wine pro that had good things to say about this wine. For $10.49 what did I have to lose? So here goes...
Aromas of plums, vanilla, and cherry. Later noted some green bell pepper. As the name implies it has velvety tongue coating tannins. A lingering finish. All that for a ten spot. Definitely a value at this price point. Cheers 🍷 — 9 days ago
Chocolate covered cherries, vanilla, spice, tobacco, and earth. I was forced to move on to the next vintage of this weeknight favorite. It went up in price (from $14.99 to $17.99). I have to say it continues to offer a superb value. It is rare to find a wine in this price range that offers balance, structure, and some complexity. Will have lay in a few more bottles. Stay tuned for reviews on the Cabernet and Rapids Red from Seven Falls Cellars. — 15 days ago
Tried this wine at a high end tasting at Tinto. Brought a few bottles home. Broke out the Coravin to enjoy a full glass. This is a big boy and just my style. First impression is that it will definitely refine with some age but there is so to appreciate right now. Definitely recommend decanting an hour or more before drinking. Without decanting I am getting tobacco, leather, cigar box, black currant, blueberry, vanilla, and smoke. Nice structure and balance. — 2 months ago
I have to say I am loving the consistency that I am seeing with the Seven Falls Cellars. Another superb value. This wine offers lovely aromas, solid structure and silky smooth tannins. Just as good if not better an the 3rd night which is amazing. I am seriously considering joining their wine club. — 15 days ago
