Drinking better than the 06 at the moment, this is forward, rich, and mesmerising. Citrus and stone fruits with a lovely creamy nuttiness, with toasty notes coming through. Almost like fizzy Cotes du Beaune at times, it shows a fine mousse, is well balanced, and probably has another 10 years in it. — 8 years ago

Surprisingly youthful nose of luscious rich plummy baked dark red fruits and the most etheral sous bois and pipe tobacco I've ever smelled. The palate had poise and grace in its age, everything was in fantastic balance. The tannins are shockingly fine, adding the structure that is necessary to hold everything together. Simply superb. I can only hope I show as well as this when I'm nearly 65! — 8 years ago

Remarably pure and fresh with sumptuous soured black fruits and blackcurrant leaf. Some leathery and savoury qualities lurking behind but there is poise and structure here, with very fine powdery tannins and mouthwatering acidity. Generous and lush, it did a rack of lamb proud. — 8 years ago

Citrus confit/marmalade/nuttiness sums it all up very nicely. Still quite fresh and alive with old fashioned Rhone-style oxidative qualities coming through and adding character. Serious stuff with a few years yet. — 8 years ago

Quite a stink on the nose, almost like mercaptin, with some rich yellow stone fruits. Very ripe for a Mosel, probably because of the warm year. This is nice, but there is a candy floss element in the finish I don't care for. Perhaps a little past peak. — 8 years ago

Classic and accessible, this combines juicy cherry fruit with fragrant flowers and some carbaceous qualities. Wonderful structure, but approachable and open. Lots of elegance and finesse and really delivers with winter stews. — 8 years ago

Savoury and smoky with some youthful berry fruit delivering lots of pleasure. Silky and aromatic, it shows a surprising feminine side to Echezeau while delivering a rather structured palate. Admittedly past its peak, but a really fine wine with lots of interest. — 8 years ago

Magnificent. Highly perfumed, showing candied citrus peel, ripe apricots, and a subtle hint of jasmine. The palate is rich and creamy, while giving way to an intense and vibrant acid backbone. An extended finish rounds things off nicely. Delicious now or in 30 years. — 8 years ago
