Another fabulously pure wine in this eclectic range of southern Rhône experimental cuvées from Xavier Vignon, this time a 100% Mourvèdre from old vines around Vinsobres, from the 2015 vintage.

The nose is large and herbaceous with a great juxtaposition of floral qualities with waves of deep, generous, dark fruit. There’s also spice, camphor, and vanilla best sniffed from a large glass.

The wine is full bodied on the palate, but with great purity and very supple tannins. The finish finds a sweet note and carries on with good length.

Impressive stuff for a Vin de France priced at around £15-20. This is so youthful even now with seven years of age, so I’d love to try it again in years to come.

Delicious. You need to let it breathe, get the genius out of the bottle, and then dark berries, blood, orange peel, coffee jump out. An acquired taste, opened it yesterday and is so much better today. Elegant and fresh in the mediterranean is not east.

100 year-old Mourvèdre; mostly CDP, a little Vinsobres. Blackberry, mulberry. Ferocious concentration, firm and tannic. Clean; no brett. So pure. Check back in five years...#xavier #mourvèdre #rhone

Beautiful bright garnet dress. Gourmet nose with many ripe and juicy fruity nuances (blueberry, blackberries, black cherries). Notes of white pepper, cloves, geranium, discreet aging between vanilla, coconut and smoke. The mouth is silky, of great purity. Alcohol is well tamed. It's very greedy, and the nuances are layered, developing on a nice finish. Xavier Vignon is definitely a master of blending (in addition to marketing). This 2015 is very lively, and can still be drunk for a few years. Unstoppable price/pleasure ratio.

Rapport prix/plaisir imparable.

Maybe I had an off bottle but despite of all the praise in many sites I found this monolithic and one dimensional wine. Loads of dark berries, coffee, plum, some licorice and high alcohol both on nose and palate. Medium+ in body, no real depth of fruit after the initial push and short finish. Low tannins, medium acidity and not overtly sweet which is a plus . Gave this 3h in decanter with no significant change.

On the nose sweet, spicy, exotic and jammy. Dark fruit, cloves, black pepper, a touch of well oiled leather & sandalwood. Seductive.
On the palate this is surprisingly fresh, lively & a rough, savoury edge to it - mellowed, spicy tannins and juicy acidity define the frame, with meaty fresh & stewed black fruit filling it nicely. Nice purity & definition. This is a very nice wine!
