This is the ‘17 JH Wheeler Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper Vineyard. First bottle of this wine. Blown away. Nose is of blackberry pie. Loads of black and blue fruit, ripe me juicy, supple soft tannins that give a superb mouthfeel. Rich creamy feel. Nice long finish of crème de cassis. Fantastic! Especially for a ‘17. — 9 days ago
Nice aroma. Lovely mouthfeel. Ripe black and blue fruit, graphite, pencil shavings. Medium finish. Really enjoyed this with steak frites at Rendezvous. — 18 days ago
Initially, a bit muted. But after a few minutes the dark fruit comes through. We’ll see if, like the ‘16, it needs some air time to shine. As expected, 3 hours later, wine is singing. Tannins soft, gorgeous black fruit, silky mouthfeel. Nice finish. — 5 days ago
Same comments as previously. Drinks quite well after 30 min to open up. — 10 days ago
Dark dark ruby. Tannins holding strong, a bit tight at the open, but loosens up to a wonderful silky mouthfeel. Black fruit in balance with minerality. Lovely wine but tonight I preferred the Pape Clement. — 18 days ago
Very dark almost black. Nose of raisins, baked blackberries. Ripe plum, cassis, blackberry, black cherry, graphite, vanilla. Great silky mouthfeel. Medium finish. Lovely wine. — 25 days ago
Almost black colored. Just a quick decant and lovely ripe black and blue fruit forward, camphor, tobacco, licorice. Grippy yet rounded tannins, incredible mouthfeel, with a nice long finish. Incredible wine, absolutely loved it and can’t wait to see how it evolves over the coming years! — 7 days ago
Very dark. Spices on nose. Black and red fruit, plum and cherry, lots of oak, tobacco, leather, black pepper. Perhaps a bit acidic making mouth pucker. Some airtime is softening it up. — 16 days ago
Dark ruby. Black fruit, spices, oak. Needs some air time. Not a wine I especially enjoy, and as a 17 it’s nothing special. — 21 days ago
