Ramey Wine Cellars

Fort Ross-Seaview Chardonnay 2018

A rather delightful light golden color in the glass. The nose is incredible right out of the gate with honey and oak tinged with vanilla. Anise, pears, and honeysuckle are lovely here, along with a cacophony of floral notes and earth.

As is usual with Ramey wines, everything here is spot on. The acidity and balance are just right. Bold with plenty of complexity and depth. Definitely a step or two above other California Chardonnays. Just a touch of butter on the tongue with more of that beautiful oak. Yellow fruits galore along with apples and herbs. Really, really nice stuff.

Oyster Bay

Marlborough Pinot Noir 2020

Pale ruby in color; raspberries, vanilla, and cherries on the nose; high acidity; mild tannins; tastes like sour cherries, cranberries, and hibiscus with a long finish. Needs to aerate. I adjusted my score after about 30 minutes decanted. The description still stands, but it balanced out after the decant. — a year ago

La Mouline Côte-Rôtie Syrah 1998

Beautiful vintage for N Rhone that is still youthful with a perfumed nose of black cherry, strawberry fruit, graphite, smoke, meat, dried herbs, olive, pepper & violet — a year ago

New producer for me. Unique blend of 50 Pinot noir, 25 Chardonnay and 25 Pinot Blanc. I don’t recall the base vintage, but I do remember this had 3g/l dosage, which it wore well.

Good richness here without being too austere/aggressive. A distinct creamy vibe (not sure if that’s due to the high use of Pinot Blanc). Followed over two hours. Profile here worked as it warmed up just a touch. Aromatically it is more yellow fruit, bright and mineral driven but it gains some spiced apple and pear alongside classical chalky limestone toward the finish. I’d be curious to see how this blend ages.

Yes, unique when you consider that 99% plus of the grapes used in Champagne are Chardonnay, Pinot Noir & Pinot Meunier. Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Petit Meslier and Arbane, all white varieties that make up less than .3% of plantings.

Domaine du Cayron

Gigondas Red Rhone Blend 2020
