Yarra Yering
Dry Red N°1 Cabernet Sauvignon Blend
Nothing to add to my extensive notes from January 2021. To reiterate this was the last vintage for the founder, Dr Bailey Carrodus before his passing. Just an excellent aged Yarra Valley Cabernet.

Sep 2nd, 2021I have had this wine for a period of time and have been interested in opening it for some time. This is ths 2010 Yarra Yering Dry Red No. 1. A blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, 9% Malbec and 8% Petit Verdot from Yarra Valley Australia.
On the nose there are strong notes of black cherry, blackberry, heavy licorice, tar, tobacco, black pepper, green bell pepper, leather and dark rich earth.
On the palate there are good expressive notes of black cherry, blackberry, black plum, green bell pepper, tar, black currant and earth.
The wine is full bodied with a smooth velvety mouthfeel, medium to medium+ acidity and medium to medium+ fine tannins with a medium to long black fruit tar finish. A beautiful bottle of wine with many years of life left. Continue having a wonderful week and make the remainder prosperous. Stay safe and healthy. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

Aromas of cedar, tobacco leaf, black currant and a little vanillin oak. Medium weight palate but medium plus intensity. Classical Cabernet descriptors on nose and palate. An excellent Yarra Valley Cabernet in a district that many say is best suited to Cabernet even though there is good Pinot and Chardonnay as well. This was the last vintage made by the legendary founder of YY, Dr Bailey Carrodus, before he passed. The good Dr was somewhat of an eccentric giving his wines names like Dry Red No 1, No 2 and No 3 as well as an excellent Pinot Noir. This No 1 ( always a Bordeaux blend) is 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 10% Malbec, and 4% Petit Verdot. Bailey never entered his wines in regional shows. If he had there would have been a string of medals and Trophies but he would sell out anyway. The brand carries on brilliantly these days with winemaker Sarah Crowe.

Jan 21st, 2021Initially noticeable oak. After a while just a very restrained well made Cabernet. Perfect balance but barely medium weight. Overall Yarra Yering Dry Red No. 1 was more full bodied to my palate when Dr Bailey Carrodus was making it - his last vintage being 2008. Current wine maker Sarah Crowe and former Wine maker of the year is a worthy successor to Carrodus.

May 12th, 2018Floral, green herbs, well fruited and deft touches of oak. Crosses all realms. Tannin profile is sublime, so fine and lithe but ample. Acid well and truly there. Will look even better in a few years once things meld together further

Feb 10th, 2018How cool is it when wines of exalted status live up to the billing.?This wine is exceptional. Ripe cassis fruit, juicy acid and a whiff of herbs. Yes herbs.. Classic stuff. Fucking delicious.
