Missing out on Rieslingfeier, so I had to fill the void in my heart with this 😝 From KP's first year at the winery, the 01' Hubacker Auslese Goldkap was typical of the vintage - deep, highly concentrated, and finessed. Admittedly it was kinda funky when first opened (thought it might have been slightly corked, which I sometimes struggle with in older botrytised wines). I was ready to pop open another bottle, but gave it a chance and then... Boom! Dried apricot, pineapple, candied orange, chrysanthemum on the nose. Palate was all honeyed, exotic fruits, and spices. More air brought out a lovely black tea character and cream. Fine salty finish that just keeps building. It's really racy, but the muscularity of the site and botrytis does give it an overwhelming richness. Needs a bit of chill to show its best. Day 2 and VA took over.

While perhaps unfair, this didn't move me like KP's recent 15' Pettenthal TBA. It's still a very fine wine, but I think it could do with more time to tame the sweetness and bring about more harmony.
