Today is #cabernetday so I'll have to wait with my #MerlotThursday. A nice Napa Merlot /Cabernet blend will fit in with the celebration.
Dark ruby in color with a short reddish rim. Not showing much age.
Nice nose of black currants, blackberries, wood, vanilla, chocolates, vinaigrette, graphite, leather, earth, wet leaves, vegetables, dark coffee, herbs, tobacco leaf and black pepper.
Full bodied and bold with medium plus acidity and long legs.
Dry on the palate with cherries, sweet raspberries, currants, cedar, earth, vanilla, licorice, spices, chocolates, tobacco, vegetables, vinaigrette, bitter herbs and peppercorn.
Long finish with round tannins and tangy cranberries.
This Bordeaux blend from Napa Valley is interesting and tasty. Showing great complexity and mouthfeel.
This 12 year old is good right out of the bottle and better as it opens up and shows some tannins (90 minutes).
Reminds me of a 20 year old Right Bank Bordeaux.
Wine Enthusiasts 90 points.
The high alcohol is very nicely integrated by now, so watch out.

Opened tonight for Easter dinner. Bought this bottle from Volker himself after touring the vineyard. Though I prefer their beautiful estate Cab we picked up one of these to lay down. Slowly opened up, I should have decanted as the last few glasses were nearly perfect. Here is to you Volker, we miss you, cheers!

Dense and dark. Heavy oak that matches up well with the blend. CS, CF, Merlot in even amounts.

Hard to transition to after an '81 Cab since tannins were chewier and wine overall was bigger but the pedigree of this wine was apparent. Needed a good half hour to open up for smooth sipping. All smiles on this wine!

Red blend of equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. It is deep ruby with purple undertones and evocative aromas of dark fruit, chocolate, clove and oak. The palate is intense with generous tannins, high acidity, and subtle notes of black currant, oak and spice; it has an impactful rough elegance about it.

Blackberry, plum, fresh sweet mint (subtle), dark forest fruit and a smidge of graphite. Velvety smooth, and really easy to drink. 2012 drink well in 2021. Beautiful.

Love it-blend of equal parts Merlot Cab Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Plum and salted chocolate on the nose, black cherry and coffee on the palate. Benefits from a one hour decant.
