Layers of fruit, spice and tannin. Quite remarkable. Intriguing dryness. Complex wine. Need to revisit. Only 200 cases made.

Dinner in downtown Paso Robles and trying to mix up a day of Rhône-style indulgence. This Cal-Ital hits you in the nose with smoky blood orange, actual blood, herbs, and lavender. For an ‘11 and a Cali wine, I expected it to be softer. This has massive structure, beautiful acid and very grippy tannins wrapping a lengthy finish. Paired nicely to a braised short rib and also to my wife’s lamb ragu.
