Fantastic Turkish wine that opened beautifully over the course of our meal. Would drink order it again in a heartbeat.

2013 vintage. Boutique wine maker Urlan, the wine being Karasi: a blend of Nero D'Avola and a local, virtually extinct varietal called Karasi. Medium ruby hue. Very primary fruit character, plum and cherry profile, prune, slight sweet spice (oak maturation), a little hot on the nose despite this wine being served at around 10 degrees by my waiter! There is a Chilean medicinal, licorice note - maybe some uneven ripening or failure to optical sort? Full on, extracted, raging high alcohol, medium + soft and ripe tannins, slight astringency on the finish which is actually quite long. Surprisingly, only medium plus body, which is a saving grace. A bit of a fruit bomb, which I suspect might fall down after a few years, given there's a few component parts out of balance here. No obvious signs that this wine could withstand cellaring. Drinkable with meat dishes. Wouldn't rush out to buy any! NB: as this wine warms up, it's becoming less palatable. Drink cold! (the theme for all the Turkish wines I have drunk on this trip so far! LOL)
