I think Quivira is quietly making some of the most enjoyable Sauvignon Blancs in Sonoma. I fell in love with their Alder Grove designation but this version from their “Q Collection” is no less interesting. In fact, the oak treatment is rather unique as this was aged in a combination of new and used acacia barrels as well as used barrels from the Jura and Champagne. I’m not sure how those all translate to the wine but the result is compelling! It presents a very pale straw color in the glass. The nose is powerful, pungent even with pomelo, jalapeño pepper (you know, the garden fresh ones you chop up and throw into a margarita) and tarragon. On the palate, it dazzles with bright key lime, passion fruit and minerals. So zippy and delicious and yet, there’s a deft creaminess to it that is remarkable. So balanced. This was sublime with Peruvian-styled ceviche.
