At first this wine had a mushroom and wet cardboard note. Uh oh. Since it had been slumbering for 40 years, I put it in timeout and let it figure itself out. Fruit was a bit flat right out of the gate but the cork was intact and not soaked through. 30 minutes later, much better. Aged red cherry and rhubarb. Little bit of iodine. Little bit of black olive. Little bit of grilled meat. Mushroom risotto with tomato and chicken would have gone perfectly with this wine. I am amazed at the structure of this wine. I think it could have slumbered for another 10 years and still been just fine. I give picture cred to @Shay A as I was checking this one constantly to make sure it wasn't in the can before ordering it up!!
