January Wednesday Wine Committees are always a great as the red wines are required to be 11yrs old, making all of the reds 2008 vintage. 1 sparkler, 2 whites, 4 reds and 1 dessert wine were served today, all blind.

I called this WA state Syrah. It was between that and northern Rhône...the fruit here was more prevalent and while the aromatics matched with both options, the funky, iron, stewed meat notes didn’t translate to the palate. Smoky and dark fruited. Drinking a little thin. I’d drink up if you have them.

I can get behind this. Obviously syrah, just not obviously Washington. Savory, smoky and full of tart dark fruit as expected, but even as a 2008 there's more oak than I'd expect and hope. Texture-wise it's all there, with just enough grip and guts to handle the venison burgers it washed down, but the fruit, earth and oak elements haven't come together quite yet. Three or four more years oughta do it.

Wouldn't have guessed Washington Syrah. Still a little rough upfront

Time to drink. Little too smooth for me, not a ton of finish. Had some funk, I think some of the fruit was from the Rocks District. Still a nice, interesting wine.
