6 to 10 years seems to be the sweet spot for the majority of Willamette Valley Chardonnays. This one is drinking finely at almost 9 years.

Has some nice lemon and mineral notes that remind me more of Burgundy than new world.

One of the better chards I've had. If big butter and heavy Oak emphasis is a priority for you, keep searching. This is very floral...lots of crushed flower petals with a good body. Silky.

I live on the edge of ABC (All But Chardonnay, except Chablis and unoaked Chardonnay, that is), until this lovely 2014 Stoller Family Estate Reserve Chardonnay (sample, $35). Holy deliciousness, Batman! The 11 months in French oak add a beautiful texture and backbone to a citrus- and tree-fruit driven wonder on the palate. I'm especially drawn to the lime finish. If only all oaked Chardonnays could be like this one. The pairing: Baked Steelhead trout.

Beautiful, as are all of Stoller's wines, but young. I feel will benefit from just a little more time in bottle. I reviewed the 2013 Reserve Chardonnay and preferred it slightly over the 2014. Even so, 2014 offers layers of sensory charm and is laden with just-picked peaches and pear tartan, topped off with a whiff of caramel and vanilla. On the palate, it's round and welcoming—peaches and cream followed by a subtle burst of lemon zest, dried pineapple, apricot and baking spice. Sample

Lilting aromas of apricot, pear, dried honey, lemon curd, anise. Stoller's Dundee Hills Reserve Chardonnay 2013 is clean and focused on the palate and more delicate than most. The perception is one of silkiness with beautifully integrated oak (you’d hardly know it’s there) except as a textural component, lending structure, allowing pure orchard fruit notes to shine through. This is a charming Oregon Chardonnay, and very drinkable at 12.9% ABV. If you haven't visited their tasting room, do. The view is breathtaking. Sample
